Stupid Things people believe...

This is jsut a general rant thread about stupid things people believe in. This is NOT a thread to bash general politics (IE, Democrats suck, Republicans are stupid), religion (how can you believe in God! Atheists are sinners!), and other general stuff. I recommend the following rules.

A) It must be based on facts and those facts are presented or linked to.
B) Responses should be limited to rebuttals of the presented facts or links, not just saying I don't believe that. Discussion is welcome, but only if you are going to come armed with information and not "gut" feelings on an issue.
C) Before posting something, double check it before you do so. Posting something you just saw on a chain email doesn't count, unless you are debunking (or linking to a debunking of it) that email.
D) Have fun and rant away!

1) Vaccines cause autism - Most people on this site know this is one of my peeves because it threatens not only that parents children but any children around them as well...

I did an entire research paper on autism for school not too long ago, and the only reason people thought autism was caused by vaccines was because a doctor did a study on ten infants who had been vaccinated. Some of them ended up with autism. He left out the part that all ten children had previous underlying health problems, and that he "diagnosed" them himself.
