So, the feature most valued with HCC is the graphic generation of the cards, not the point calculation?

Point calculation is OK but not the focus of the program. It's fairly accurate with at least up through wave 5.

I haven't had time to work on it for the last 8 months or so. Just to busy and I haven't played Heroscape in a long time. But I just bought wave 6 and my son's bugging me to start playing again so you may see a new release of HCC this summer.

So if I just downloaded this, am I able to mess with the code, because i have some VB experiance, and I was just curious. Also how does one add card templates seeing as the ones in it aren't the real cards?

You can do that in the Manage Factions section of the program.
You can add the template for the general and move the fields around, etc.

Anyone can mess with the code you just can't check in changes.

Get TortoiseSVN first and install it (google for it). That will let you get the source files from our page. Once that is installed right click in Explorer and select TortoiseSVN and then Repo-Browser. When it prompts for the URL put in:
https://hs-card-catalog.svn.sourcefo...s-card-catalog
A new window will open with the source files. right click and select Export to copy them to your hard drive. You can then mess around with it and compile it with VB 6.0. If you do something good for the program and want to be a dev let me know and I'll add you as a developer.

No there hasn't been a release since the one I did quite some time ago. Too busy in my professional programming life to have time to work on it. So far behind in Heroscape I don't think I've even seen the last couple of waves yet. But I log in once and while

Re: The Future of HCC (GPL Developers Needed)

Would the GPL-licence grant permission to use the point calculation algorithm in another free software?

You are free to use any part of HCC in your program provided you give me credit and release the parts of your program that use my code under GPL v2 or later.

James Perry
So apparently it would be possible to use the algorithm.
EDIT:
However, I just found this post

Formulas:

Base Cost = (<Height lookup> + <Life lookup> + <Move lookup> + <Range
lookup> + <Attack lookup> + <Defense lookup>) * <Squad Size Modifier
lookup>

Special Cost Points = SUM(Special Direct Cost lookups)

Special Cost Calculated = SUM(Special Multiplier lookups) * (<Base Cost> +
<Special Cost Points>)

Calclutated Cost Per = <Base Cost> + <Special Cost Points> + <Special Cost
Calculated>

Army Unit Cost = <Calculated Cost Per> * <army size>
This is the algorithm that HCC uses.
It would indicate that GrungeBob have something to do with the costing algorithm...
