Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

Based on everything I have seen so far, I think the answer is no. The complexity and character of the sculpts is geared towards adults, the price point is very obviously going to be geared towards adults, and the fact that it will be available on crowdfunding rather than in stores suggests it will pretty much only be sold to adults. This looks like a (successful) attempt to cash in on my nostalgia.

But I would honestly be more surprised than not if they made any changes to the rules.

Re: Heroscape 2nd Edition is here!

Well after lurking on Facebook and here for the Heroscape releases, I finally got my account back after almost a decade away from Heroscape. New releases have been great, I'm excited to paint them all after playing Shadows of Brimstone & Mansions of Madness and other such games.

LOL, I can likely help you with that in the future, depends on how detailed you want things.

But this does bring up the question of is this game still being designed for 8+

Being on the "+" end of that (and then some) I would hope so. The simplicity of the rules was always a plus.
My 9yo son and the 8yo down the street enjoyed coming to the tournament we hosted recently, and they frequently play on their own with my collection. I certainly hope the new stuff is appropriate for them (in every sense of the word).

Also, I think the +1/+2 defense for partial cover house rules are great house rules, but would be really obnoxious in tournament play and would make the game overly contentious for some (combinations of) players. I'm glad it is not part of Vanilla 'Scape.

I'm going to try testing out a partial cover rule of "if a figure's head and chest/stomach are covered, but you can still see any other visible hit zone, blanks/general symbols count as shields when rolling for defense", during my next game/s. Less dice math to remember.

Upset City Baby.

And since this HeroScape 2.0, based on the above reasons, is most likely geared towards adult gamers and not the 8+ crowd I really hope they finally drop the ridiculous "roll the 20 sided die" text and replace it with the much simpler "roll a d20", or "roll 1d20". The very lawyer like language that this game uses on its cards can sometimes be headache producing. Some of the official cards (as well as some customs on this site) simply make my eyes hurt to read. Plus, we have symbols for super strength, why not a symbol for flying figures? Or do we have to have reams of text still on these new cards constantly saying the same thing? I hope and wish that the designers might take a long look at this aspect of the game and bring it up to a better standard, rather than stand on older, established precedent just for its own sake.

Any other powers you would make into a symbol?
I really like what you did with weaknesses like Fire.

I know you’ve seen my symbols on my superhero cards since you’ve played with them. I made symbols for the most obvious ones: Flying, Stealth Flying, Phantom Walk, and since it Supers, the Super Strength symbol. I feel it really cleans up the cards and the precedent was already set with the Marvel Super Strength symbol. I just took it to its logical conclusion, that’s all. Why others didn’t adapt something similar honestly confused me somewhat. I updated and cleaned up so many of my Supers during Covid. Maybe I should update all my files sometime.

Welp, 100% using these rules in my home games from now on. Love this.

C3G has, of course, been using Flying Symbols since the beginning as well. It's such a long, prevalent, intuitive power that it's a shame not to put it in a symbol, IMO.

But I understand that for some designers they like that the text room it takes up is an inherent "cost" for a fairly powerful ability as it restricts how much else can be included on the same card.

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
