Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Perhaps the best game I ever played in.
Eight players and each one incredibly good. It really was an honor to game with them.
When the GM blew up "in character" the whole room stopped, watched and applauded, he then had to 'take a break' as we had momentarily derailed his game.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

This week/weekend, played some more Innovation, finally opened and played a few games of Krosmaster Arena 2, and finished off with the tower defense game The King's Armory. going to be doing some playtesting for a TKA expansion, so I needed to refresh my memory on the game play. I enjoy all 3 of these games immensely.

I watched Tabletop's Eldritch Horror videos yesterday and it made me want to play Fortune and Glory. Trying to set it up for this weekend.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Having lots of fun with the new Commands & Colors Tricorne: American Revolution by Richard Borg. I played the first two scenarios of twelve with a pal. Then I solitaired one, and found it was quite enjoyable to do so. I'll do another one today.

Then I'll be up to the two scenarios about The Battle of Long Island (aka The Battle of Brooklyn), which took place only a few miles away from my place!

The game has a number of new mechanisms to simulate battles in the 18th Century, which is does amazingly well. I made up a player aid, Charley's Combat Calculator, which can be found in the game's Files section on boardgamegeek. I've provided other information there as well.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Picked up Corto (Metagot), the Eurogame based on the famous Italian comic book adventures of Corto Maltese. You can see the best world traveling stories of this WWI era merchant naval officer animated in English for free on youtube. Got it for half price at my FLGS today. I always wanted to check this design out, and now I've got my chance! Its simple but unusual, and plays in only an hour or less for 2-4 players.

In Venice, the birthplace of artist Hugo Pratt, I sat in the Corto Maltese Lounge in my hotel, sipping their signature Bellini drink and poring over shelves of the graphic novels! Next to me on a coat rack, Corto's naval uniform jacket was hanging, as if he'd just stepped out for a moment.

My great uncle was a British merchant naval officer who served in the famous naval Battle of Jutland in WWI. The door on his radio shack was warped closed by a shell, and they had to cut him out back at port. If his ship had gone down, he would have gone with it.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Hahma,

I have play testing credit on the first expansion, and own the second one. I like the system, but have trouble getting enough players--as I feel that it plays best with all six. So I haven't followed it into the Peloponnesian War or WWI.

Yeah, getting 6 can be the hard part for sure. I don't own it, but one of the guys in my game group owns them all. I haven't gotten to try the WWI version yet (though I know he's played it a couple times), nor the Peloponnesian War version.

My friend must have gotten in touch with the designer, as he is playtesting the upcoming version The Cold War. I got to sit in on a playtest of that on Monday, it was my first time with that one, and 2nd time for my friend and 2 of the others that were involved. So there were 3 with experience of that game and 3 newbs to it. Certainly has some differences from the original one that I had been used to with a few plays of that one.

Reminds me a little bit of the C&C system. Not gameplay wise, but rather how a certain system can be implemented into so many different ways effectively.

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?

Yeah, I had the designer over my place for the session. Turns out, although now upstate NY, that he used to live in Brooklyn! I read once that one in five Americans can trace their family to here within five generations!

Can youse believe it?
