Queezi's Modern Warehouse Custom
Just completed this terrain piece for MarvelScape. No WIP-pics, unfortunately (development was spread out over too long a period for me to keep remembering the camera) but I'm providing detailed notes and would be happy to answer any questions...
1) Posters and signs were created in the GIMP image editing program, and printed on cardstock using a color laser printer. 2) Side walls were coated using Plasti-Cote "Fleck Stone" textured spray paint (Santa Fe Sand). 3) Windows are O-scale, laser-cut cardstock frames backed with clear acetate. The windows achieved a nice "fogged" effect when the entire piece was sprayed with matte varnish. I picked up the windows here. 4) Stone corner pieces are 1/4" square styrene strips, notched every 1/4" and then sponge-painted to give them a marbled appearance. 1) The base was created from medium weight (.05) Crescent Illustration Board, primed and painted. Styrene "fins" were added to the bottom to help secure the piece to standard HS terrain. The fins fit into the grooves between hexes. 2) The loading dock is sandwiched foam-core covered in Plastruct textured styrene. 3) Weeds were added to the edges of the loading dock by gluing clumps of static grass where the dock met the base. 1) The walls of the piece are constructed from 5mm foam-core and capped with strips of styrene. The top pieces received a treatment similar to the corners: scored at regular intervals and sponge-painted to look like stone. 2) The brick facade was created using Plastruct textured styrene. The styrene was primed using gray primer and then the bricks were painted using various shades of brown. The primer was allowed to show through around the bricks to serve as grout. The result is very realistic. Dramatic Action Scene. This pictures shows the distressed sign as well as some good detail of the brick and window work. 1) The rear wall ends were also covered with strip styrene painted to match the interior wall color. 2) All floor/roof surfaces were covered with thin cereal box cardboard hexagons that match the HS terrain dimensions and configurations. These surfaces were later painted and given a sponged texture to make them look worn. 3) All wall cut-outs for window and door openings were covered with a cardstock frame to hide the exposed foam-core. These frames were painted to match the base floor color, giving the piece a consistent coloring scheme. Dramatic Action Scene II. This picture shows the detail of the loading dock area including the laser cut door frames (also painted to match the interior scheme) and the floor treatment. Yes, the Hulk will fit through the door, please ignore the dramatic camera angle. The other side wall for those curious. This item is available for auction on ebay. Feedback welcomed and encouraged, Queezi |

Great clean work!
I started to wonder where you went off to as I didn't see any of your customs in a while. |

This project has taken up a huge chunk of my time (mostly due to the experimental nature of a lot of the techniques) but I think it was worth it. Take care, Queezi |

I hope WOTC, in the future, can come up something like this for Marvel. You really know how to do this right Queezi. Last edited by Ugly-Caco; May 29th, 2008 at 11:53 AM. |
