The world already ended today, as well as around 20,000 times earlier. It just reforms really quickly.

Figures moving only need to fit in each space, not slide. Going along that logic, you're allowed to lift up terrain, place the figure and put the terrain back on so that the hollow space allows the figure to fit, correct?

No, you can't move the terrain. You can move the figure. It needs to fit on each space, without you moving the terrain.
