HONOR AMONG THIEVES
When a Rogue you control who is adjacent to Millerson is attacked by an opponent's figure that is not adjacent to that Rogue and receives one or more wounds from that attack, you may place the same number of wound markers on this Army Card to ignore any wounds that Rogue just received.

GRIT
When Millerson attacks, he may attack one additional time for every two wound markers on this Army Card.


-Rulings and Clarifications-

Q: Could Honor Among Thieves be used to save a Rogue from wounds inflicted by Sonlen's Dragon Swoop?
A: No.
Honor Among Thieves can only be used to prevent damaged caused by an attack. Auto-wound powers such as Dragon Swoop are not attacks.

Q: If a Rogue is hit by Shurrak and moved next to Millerson due to Knockback, could Millerson use Honor Among Thieves to prevent the damage?
A: No.
Even though Shurrak would no longer be adjacent to the Rogue, the damage from the attack has already been inflicted prior to Knockback. Millerson also could not prevent falling damage wounds due to Knockback, since those wounds are due to falling, not the actual attack.

Q: If a Rogue you control is hit by an attack that would inflict three wounds but the Rogue only has one Life, if Millerson was adjacent how many wounds would he have to take to save the Rogue?
A: Three.
Figures can and do receive more wounds than they have total Life. In this example, the Rogue would receive three wounds, even though he or she only has a single Life point. Millerson would have to take three wounds to prevent all three wounds to save that Rogue.

Q: If a Rogue you control adjacent to Millerson receives wounds from spillover damage from Rail Gun Special Attack, can Millerson use Honor Among Thieves to protect that Rogue?
A: Yes.
The spillover damage from Rail Gun Special Attack is still part of the attack.

The wording on Honor Among Thieves jumps out to me as odd - I don't know how C3V normally words these things, but it feels weird to me that you take wounds and then ignore them.

I think the problem could be avoided if you had the power trigger before the wounds are actually received:

No problem, we want our powers to be as clear and watertight as possible.

Compare this, for instance, with Parmenio's Sacred Band Defy Death 15. He uses the same "When [applicable figure] ... receives one or more wounds ... [do the following things to] ignore any wounds."

Our editors went over this particularly carefully, and this wording apparently avoids a whole lot of messy corner cases that come up with a redirecting wounds power.

Well met!

Bought the figure when it first appeared in the future figure thread in hopes of it being a good additional non-firearm ranged unit for my medieval scenarios. Millerson is certainly that - and much more.

He's a Rogue! And protects other Rogues. And becomes more dangerous the more hurt he is. A nice dichotomy between the two Special Powers, btw. Strong Defense and Life for a ranged character a la Locksley. Loving how the Rogue faction is shaping up. Millerson, along with Arthur [and Kha well on his way to SoV acceptance], they're going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Q: If Millerson has only one life left, can be absorb three wounds with Honor Among Thieves?

A: You certainly can use Millerson as a sacrifice for another figure! That may well be part of the strategy when playing him.

MILLERSON TEST:

Army 1: Nottingham Brigand x4, Millerson, Locksley (375, 6 spaces)
Army 2: KoW x3, Gilbert, Morgan's Riflemen (375, 15 spaces)

Map: By Babylon's Rivers

Gilbert and the Knights did a slow roll forward along the road, bringing along Morgan's Riflemen towards the left-side height.

Millerson got some early OMs to start protecting the Brigands, and he turned a few disengage wounds into some double attacks, killing 2 Knights.

Locksley died to repeated Knightly blows, and some Wannok camping proved to be too much for Millerson and the remaining Brigands.

Grit: 3 double attacks (3 kills), 1 triple attack.
Honor Among Thieves: used twice out of three opportunities, to save 2 wounds from Brigands. The one he passed on would have dealt three wounds.

Damage dealt:
4 Knights and 2 wounds on Gilbert, for exactly 105 points.

Knights won with 6 Knights remaining, 4 lives on Gilbert, and 2 Morgan's Riflemen.

MILLERSON TEST:

Army 1: Nottingham Brigand x4, Millerson, Locksley (375, 6 spaces)
Army 2:Stingerx4, Raelin, Morgan's Riflemen (375, 15 spaces)

Map: By Babylon's Rivers

Raeling set up along the left side, so the Brigands went left to avoid Raelin. They succeeded in drawing the Stingers away from Raelin, to the tune of 3 wounds on Millerson and a dead Brigand on turn 2.

Millerson nearly died the next two turns, but managed to survive long enough to get off an effective triple attack and then jump on Kelda to heal 5 wounds.

Locksley came up, and the Rogues wore down a repositioned Raelin. The last Brigand got OM sniped, and it was down to Locksley and a 1-life Millerson (again) vs. 2 stingers and Morgan's Riflemen.

Locksley took 3 damage from stinger drain, and only took out 3 of the remaining 5 figures.

With a clutch initiative, Millerson took a triple attack from height and cleared the final Morgan's Rifleman. The OM-less stinger went down the next turn.

Grit: 2 double attacks (2 kill), 4 triple attacks (6 kills).
Honor Among Thieves: used three times out of six opportunities, to save 3 wounds from Brigands. He passed on the big ones, as usual.[/B]

Damage dealt: 8 Stingers and 1 Morgan's Rifleman, and 1 wound on Raelin. 196 points, which is right on target with his extra lives. He had killed 3 stingers for 60 points before stepping on Kelda.

Millerson won with 1 life left.

Just had a super fun and wild game with this guy and had to do a write-up while it was still fresh.

Map: Valledon Fortress

Army 1: Millerson, Raelin (RotV), Nottingham Brigand x3, Darrak Ambershard, Bol, Axegrinders x2 (500 Points, 15 Figures)
Army 2: Mohican River Tribe x3, Brave Arrow, Venoc Warlord, Kaemon Awa (500 Points, 12 Figures)

Game Summary:
In the first round, Raelin moved behind a wall where she was completely hidden while covering the Axegrinders and Darrak who advanced on the other two OMs. Meanwhile, the speedy Mohicans took the central high ground and started pot-shooting dwarves, killing one.

Second round the dwarf/rogue decides they’ll lose the battle of attrition if they start taking shots back with Brigands, so Raelin flies into the middle, killing a Mohican. Mohicans retaliate, wounding Raelin and letting Brave Arrow start to move in. Raelin’s spearhead is followed by the dwarves and Darrak rushing in, who start killing Mohicans (while Darrak’s Sneak Attack didn’t get any kills in those two turns, the dwarves killed a squad of the Mohicans). Brave Arrow gets into the mix and starts boosting Mohican attacks.

Third round continues the bloodbath as Dwarves and Mohicans go at it. At the end, Raelin is dead and only Darrak and three dwarves remain, while only a 1 Life Brave Arrow and a squad of Mohicans remain on the other side.

Fourth round sees Kaemon come into play, killing two Dwarves and one-shotting Darrak with his Special Attack. The final Dwarf takes Wannok, and Kaemon Awa is out of position to get a shot in. Instead he takes some isolated height while a Brigand and Millerson begin to advance, and Millerson gets a shot to finish off Brave Arrow. Meanwhile the Venoc Warlord takes the Wannok wound.

Kaemon gets the first shot, dealing two wounds on a Brigand, but Millerson soaks both of them up. Then, instead of having a firefight with Kaemon where the Samurai could easily kill the rogues, Millerson runs along the road, finishing off the final two Mohicans and getting ready to put wounds on the Venoc Warlord so Wannok will have to go on Kaemon. Kaemon chases, killing a Brigand (who wasn't on the road and couldn't keep up with Millerson) but missing against Millerson. Millerson runs away, not wanting Kaemon to engage him on even ground (only 2 attack vs counterstrike), and puts some more wounds on the Warlord. Kaemon kills the Dwarf on Wannok and Millerson finishes off the Warlord.

Kaemon is the only figure remaining in his army, and the Rogues are finally ready to go for him. Millerson takes two shots and, with a blank from Kaemon, deals 2 wounds to Awasome. Kaemon runs to the Rogue start zone and kills the two remaining Brigands, stealing a turn from them. He then returns and kills Millerson (with a 4 skull attack vs a blank from Millerson). Millerson had turn 3 on him, which goes to Bol, who begins his advance.

Final round, Bol wins initiative and engages Kaemon Awa, rolling 2 Skulls. Kaemon defended successfully and killed Bol the next turn, but in my alternate timeline I like to think the little guy pulled it off.

Surviving Figures: Kaemon (2 Life)

Use of Powers/Damage Done: Honor Among Thieves triggered once, putting two wounds on Millerson, which subsequently allowed him 7 full turns of 2 attacks due to Grit.
Millerson killed 2 Mohicans, did 1 wound to Brave Arrow (killing him), killed the Venoc Warlord, and did 2 wounds to Kaemon Awa.

Additional Comments: Millerson killed a ton this game, but the majority of that damage was done on “sleeping” units as he looked for a good time to fight Kaemon Awa. It’s comparable to Kaemon, who also killed a ton (3 Axegrinders, 3 Brigands, Darrak, Millerson, and Bol), but most of those units were likewise inactive after the bloodbath. It was a lot of cat and mouse between Millerson and Kaemon, with both of them killing a lot of stuff during the chase. Overall, he played well and it was a fun close game.

Re: Millerson Public Playtesting

As a part of my playtesting event today, two players who had never played the game before showed up, ready to learn and to fill out playtesting forms. One of them took a pre-built Millerson army that I brought, and the other constructed his own army out of the remains of figures from people who hadn't been able to make it.

Ruined Pier by Dad_Scaper
Glyphs: Wannok, Gerda
Player 1: Millerson, 4x Nottingham Brigand, Locksley, Drow Chainfighter
Player 2: Deltacron, 2x Banshees of Durgeth Swamp, Arboris, Sentinels of Grax

Game Summary
The Sentinels of Grax both suffered early whiffs, taking them out of commission early on. Since both players were new, they also made their fair share of mistakes (near the end of the first round of games as I was walking around, I realized that they had been playing Millerson as if he got an extra attack die instead of an extra attack itself nearly the entire game).

Arboris and Deltacron were both very tanky against this hero-heavy and (somewhat erroneously) attack-light army, and the Banshees were able to swoop in and scream at stray Brigands without a moment's notice. They duked it out on the far side of the wall and across the main hill, but ultimately the Brigands were held back by their initial misunderstanding on the rules.

Thoughts on Unit
Initially, Player 1 wasn't a fan of Millerson at all. Once she learned that he actually gets multiple attacks instead of a Wounded Rage-esque ability, though, she changed her mind and instantly wanted to try this match-up again, now that she could potentially burn through multiple of Arboris' Overgrowth Markers per each turn. She felt like this was a much better addition to the faction, since she was actually wishing she had more attacks throughout most of the game.

Now that my friend understood how to properly use Millerson, she was excited to get the chance to play the Rogue army much more properly. She instantly wanted to go against the same opponent again on a new map.

Game Summary
I wasn't able to witness any of this game as I was busy testing Gen. Simon Fraser, but now that both players had a more complete understanding of each other's armies and their own, I've been told that it was a much less close fight (in Player 1's favor).

She noted that Millerson was mostly used to combat Arboris, eating through his Overgrowth Markers faster than he could regenerate them. Her Drow Chainfighter was an early sacrifice, and despite Locksley grabbing Kelda, Deltacron proved to be quite a struggle for him. The Brigands were able to wrap things up with Millerson.

Thoughts on Unit
Now that she understood his multiple attacks and was on such a mountainous map, she stressed how much better Millerson is with height. She noted how he was excellent at taking out the Banshees from far away, as his great range coupled with up to three attacks saved her Brigands from being gimped from a sudden Banshee raid. She felt like he was an excellent addition to the faction, perhaps more important than Locksley himself.
