Othkurik's Lair.

This is the first custom terrain piece I've made.






Note that the mounted Othkurik is only for the 4-H display. It will be removed when I use this in an actual game.

How it was made.

First I'd like to apologize for the blurry spot in some of the pics. Apparently I got a little glue on the camera.


First I glued a piece of foam to a seven-hex piece. I cut the foam into the shape I wanted.



I painted the hex black. You can't see it in this picture but I also added a red drybrush that adds a lot of life to the piece.



I started adding the gold and treasure effects. Right now the gold is drying and the piece will soon be ready for a second coat.

Mac112 had an excellent suggestion of adding skeletons. I didn't have any full skeletons, but I like the way the skull came out.

Smashed Bridged.

After posting a card for the wooden bridge as a destructible object I recieved a suggestion for a post-destroyed bridge. This is what I came up with. As you can see most of the planks are missing and a large hole has been created in the middle board. What I think is even more unique than the piece is the tutorial on how it is made.

Start by making a bridge just as in Renquist's tutorial. DO NOT paint it yet. I'm sure that there is a better solution, but this is what I came up with, and I believe it to be a heroscaper's first.

Set the bridge up against a hill or a tree and start taking pot shots at it with a pellet gun or high powered air rifle. It's important not to use bb's as copper is much harder than lead and will completely shatter the piece. Now you may paint the piece. Painting it beforehand will not produce the desired splinter effect. If you feel it is necessary you may place a thin layer of glue over the piece to help it hold together.

Yes you read that correctly.




The piece might not be groundbreaking. It's been done many times before, but this was more about abilities.

lol A 'dragons nest' made from gold and other treasure was what my idea was for the contest too. I just never got around to starting it.

Looks nice. And I like the name.

Treasure Trove seems very powerful though-a free Treasure Glyph for every hero? It might balance it if something extra bad happens on a 1-5: multiple wounds or a temporary shift in loyalty, for example.

Actually I was hoping to enter it in the terrain contest but I didn't get it started soon enough.

Nice work Chardar. It would be cool if you could get some scale skeletons and place a few of them around the treasure pile.

I'm going to use this as a 4-H project so I'm a little strapped for time so far as getting full skeletons. I do have some old mega-bloks skulls that look pretty good on it. I'll see what I can do so far as skeletons.

Just skulls or a few bones scattered about would achieve the same effect. Again, nice work!
