Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
This question came up in a game today. An Isumi Samurai was surrounded by three zombies. The zombies used their special, so the three zombies attacked as one with a roll of 6 attack dice. If the zombies roll 0 or 1 skull and the Isumi rolls 4 (or 5) shields, are all three zombies killed by the counterstrike?

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
Counter strike only works on normal attacks.

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
Ahem... we have something strange here. I live in Belgium and by chance got a Dutch game four years ago. But translating it literally, on the counterstrike ability is listed that all shields count as unblockable hits on the attacking unit. I presume this is merely a typo and not different in this country?

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
It's a typo - only excess shields count.

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
If I'm correct there is a Synergy Benefit Offered to Hatamoto Taro. As figures who follow Einar, Izumi Samuri may aid him with his Adjacent Tough 1 defense bonus.

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
These guys are interesting. They have pretty high defense for a squad, and with counterstrike, they need it. You don't want to use them to guard something, otherwise your opponent's range will kill them off fast. Instead, put their six move to good use entangling enemy figures. Once engaged, the enemy will have to attack them, which is useful if it's a ranged unit. The enemy then has to waste turns trying to beat down five defense, and if its attack is low, you have the added possibility of counterstriking it. Although their attack does nothing much, don't let it get you down. They are very useful for holding enemies in place while you situate your figures, and then shoot them down from a safe distance.

These guys are the reason there isn't a melee deathwalker.

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
Actually, there's been a melee Deathwalker for years, Deathwalker 7000...

That's because Deathstalkers and Deathreavers are the melee units.

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
I have a question about Counterstrike which I can't seem to find an answer to. Is it optional? Can I choose not to use counterstrike so as not to make Krug stronger, for example? I just got a Krug and I don't think there was any mention of it in his Book.

Re: The Book of Izumi Samurai
It isn't optional. If it was is would have "may" in there somewhere.
