Autumn Custom Competition Poll - Vote by October 8
The entries votes are in! We had some fabulous entries this year, and the people have decided that simple is better. I can't say I disagree (mostly because I forgot to vote so I don't deserve to complain. That's how democracy works, eh?).
"Legend holds that Giants once walked Valhalla. They would gather here during the depths of winter to carve up their hunting lands for the next year. While no Giants have been seen for countless ages, their bones are still rumored to be buried in this area." -*RotV Master Set
Long thought extinct, Ullar has provided refuge for the last of Valhalla's Giants. Their numbers are few, so when one Giant falls, the ferocity of his brethren increases.
Accidentally summoned to San Francisco, these giants were turned from brutes into baseball players! These rookies love to swing for the fences, and a tranquilizer dart will keep them from attacking the fans.
It was time for the giants of Eberron to find a new kingdom. Just before leaving the sacred grounds of Xen'drik, these ogres summoned the spirits of giants. The spirits changed these ogres into mighty giants. These newly formed Ogres Brutes left the jungle and towards the continent of Khorvaire. When the Ogre Brutes arrived in Khorvaire, they were attacked by humans.
The Ogre Brutes used their new found giant power to wipe out the puny humans. They were attacked with fire and other weapons. When the Ogre Brutes were hit, their giant strength protected them from great harm. Just before being pelted by another barrage of fire, the Ogre Brutes were transported to Valhalla. After they woke up, the Ogre Brutes realized that they were not on Eberron.
Just before leaving the portal, the Ogre Brutes were greeted by other giants. The giants consisted the Frost Giant of Morh, Shurrak and Jotun, they are residents of Eberron except for Jotun, this powerful giant came from Feylund. These giants fought alongside the Ogre Brutes, the Ogre Brutes realized that Valhalla was a battlefield of great warriors. After their fight, the Ogre Brutes searched for more worthy challengers.

Navigating the treacherous terrain of the mountain passes of Feylund is difficult enough, but any hopeful mountaineer would be lucky to make it that far. In the foothills, bands of trolls wait in ambush for unwary travelers. They don't boast the size or strength of their lowland cousins, but they can still be quite fearsome if they corner their prey. Quick-witted travelers and would-be giant-slayers know that the secret to surviving a giant ambush is to make them work against each other.
A sickening thud sounded nearby. It was followed immediately by a high-pitched scream that died as quickly as it had sounded.
The growing sound of heavy footsteps met the ears of the group of Marro drones standing in close formation. They peered through the eerie woods of the Forgotten Forest, gripping their spears tightly as they waited for something to emerge.
With a roar, giants burst from the tree line, hurling limp bodies from club-like arms. Bodies crashed into each other and drones scattered, unable to hold their formation against the wild savages bearing down on them.
General: Ullar. Like the daddy of all giants, Jotun.
Brutes: Like Horned Skull Brutes/Frost Giant.
Bold: Like Master of the Hunt.
Stats: Giants tend to have high attack, low defense. As a squad, it didn't feel appropriate to quite live up to Jotun's heroic stats, though in the end they match Pel (but with half the life and twice the points).
Powers:
Slow & Steady. I wanted them to be able to throw their weight around! No leaving engagement attacks, though, because that would become abusive.
Dumb & Numb. Had to make up for their low defense somehow, so they're too stupid and tough to let minor wounds slow them down. It does grant them a single disengage, just be careful about attacking Samurai afterward, or engaging Ice Elementals! This was a hard one to get right, because it had to walk the line between useful and invulnerable. Does not grant them lava resistance, because the end of the round is not during a turn.
Rage & React. As you can see, I stuck with the This & That naming convention all the way through. I wanted them to have another way to utilize those big clubs, but also note that it's a must power, so they could easily accidentally take out their anger on allies! It also works even if the defending giant was destroyed as an homage to the Frost Giant's Dying Swipe.
Points: 170. They're throwing three attacks of 6! Slow move (double base) and low defense should also help keep that in check.
Sir Jacques looked out at the massacre from behind his rocky hiding place. His armour was dented, and the pain in his stomach suggested internal bleeding.
The day was lost. The field was littered with corpses, mostly of his fellow knights. They had fought well, beating the orcs to a standstill... but then the Utgarian force had revealed the mercenaries they’d hired, their reserve. Their savage ferocity had been too much for Jandar’s already tired and depleted army.
‘Oi, Trevor! This one’s still alive!’
The ogre’s raucous bellow echoed across the bloody field. Jacques watched as the brute brought his club down on one of his barely living comrades, breaking his body with a sickening crunch.
‘Good find, Larry! I’ll be lookin’ meself!’
Larry bent down and, with his huge hand, broke off the knight’s shattered breastplate, tossing it aside before ripping open the dead man’s gambesson to get to the flesh beneath. He tore off a chunk of bloody meat and Jacques could feel his stomach churn as he watched. Larry brought the mass of raw, human flesh to his mouth and wolfed it down, his hand and mouth stained crimson.
‘’Ey, gi’me some o’ that!’ called another voice, from beyond what Jacques could see.
‘Sod off, Brian, ge’ yer own food!’
‘But ah need some o’ ‘is stren’th! I’s no’ fair!
‘Don’ I know it. If you woz worth summin’, you’d ‘ve found yer own meal - dis stren’th, dis flesh, is mine!'
Jacques attempted to pull back behind the rock, but his armour was too clunky - he could hear it rattle, and his heart sank as he grasped his blade.
‘Wot were that?’
‘I’mma check it aht - don’ touch m’ meal.’
The knight’s breath came thick and fast as he heard the heavy, rhythmless plod of the ogre’s feet drawing closer and closer. He gripped his sword tighter, and as the ogre lumbered round the rock, he struck. His blow was true, and he buried his blade deep into the beast’s chest with a single lunge. It should have been enough to kill it - should have been, but wasn’t, for the brute had already fed. The creature leered at him - its stinking breath making him retch, the rotten, blackened teeth from which the group had gained their name jutting crudely from its blood-stained maw.
‘Oi! Brian, Trev! Looks like I’ve found me anuvva one.’
With that, the brute grasped the knight’s throat and, closing its hand around him, crushed his windpipe. Jaques’s world went black.
