NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Mirror Master

Summary: MM is great, the teleport is real slick, and the option to move relatively is appealing, even if I didn’t need it here. His 6 defense makes him one of the more solid Rogues, so even though he’s a bit of a support unit, I don’t mind having him on the front lines. They held their own against the vigilantes, but Batgirl was rolling hot.

Recap: Golden Glider chooses Capt. Cold. Grodd walks forward, while MM teleports Cold and Glider forward to height. Huntress shoots Grodd for 2 wounds. Grodd decides to grab height and attack Huntress. Grodd easily kills her, but takes two wounds from her counterstrike. Kaine moves up, and Grodd uses a marker to let Cold shoot Batgirl, and Grodd grabbed height on Kaine, but no wounds dealt at all. Cold hits Kaine for 2 wounds. Kaine kills Glider, and Robin hits Cold for a wound. Grodd uses a marker. Cold misses, but Grodd hits Kaine for 3 wounds. Cold hits Robin for 2 wounds, allowing MM to kill Kaine! Grodd tries to take out Batgirl, but her counter finishes him! Batgirl easily kills Cold, after he kills Robin, and MM can’t keep up with her nasty counterstrike.

Damage dealt: 1 wound to Kaine (Killing him)

Mirror World: Move Cold and Glider up right away.

Retreat: Not used. (The Rogues had a good pod on height, didn’t have to change position)

Lack of Reflection: Not used.

Summary: He was more useful here, actually saving Capt Cold’s life at a critical moment. MM’s ability to quickly grab height for the Rogue’s is very good, especially when combined with Tar Pit’s Stuck and Capt Cold’s Frozen Field. It makes approaching them very difficult without flying. Very happy with him.

Recap: Glider picks Tar Pit. The wrecking Crew all roll hot to move up, with Thunderball hitting Tar Pit for a wound. Tarpit engages Thunderball, and Grodd moves up Cold and has Tar Pit miss an attack. Tar Pit and Glider each deal a wound to Thunderball. Cold hits Piledriver for a wound, and he moves up MM to next next to all 3 Rogues, but he can’t deal any damage. Grodd uses his Mind Link, and deals 5 wounds to Wrecker! Piledriver hits Cold for a wound, but MM rescues him before he can punch again. They move back just a few spaces. Tar Pit and Glider keep beating on Thunderball. Wrecker finally kills Grodd. Cold deals a wound to Piledriver, allowing MM to snipe Wrecker and kill him! Tar Pit finally kills Thunderball. Glider deals 2 wounds to Piledriver, and Piledriver struggles to climb the hill because of Capt Cold. MM kills Piledriver! Tar Pit engages Bulldozer from height, locking him down! Bulldozer can’t break through Tar Pits high defense on height, and Capt Cold eventually finishes him off.

Damage dealt: 1 wound to Wrecker (Killing him). 1 wound to Piledriver (Killing him)

Mirror World: Used at the beginning on Tar Pit and Glider.

Retreat: Used to save Cold from a second Pounding Fists attack.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
Very draftable. Adds another tool to the Rogues, and a very useful one. Quick mass movement is always great, and Grodd as a heavy hitter and leader combined very well with them. Very happy with him, and think he’s solid at 160 so far.


GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT:
Love him, and Grodd and the Rogues. Lots of cool new toys for these guys.

Round 1: Initiative Team Flash. Jay speeds forward into the street. Mirror Master takes Captain Cold and Tar Pit through the mirror world and onto the roof. Blacksmith moves four spaces and blows out a ground floor window. Max Mercury speeds into the street after Jay. Mirror Master goes Through the Mirror World and dumps Tar Pit right next to Max and Jay, so they’re Stuck, and carries Captain Cold beside him. Blacksmith goes out onto the front steps and hits Max Mercury for a wound from height. Flash (Barry) speeds out and engages Captain Cold with his extra movement. Mirror Master attacks, gets a reroll from Blacksmith, and lands one wound on Jay with a 2 skull attack (Jay only rolls one shield on seven defense). Blacksmith fails her attack.

Round 2: Initiative Team Flash. Barry rolls terribly on his attack, but puts one wound on Captain Cold. Then Mirror Master uses Rogue Retreat to cut off any more attacks and put Captain Cold and Mirror Master on top of the destructible wall where Barry can’t engage them. Blacksmith has Magenta move up. Then Blacksmith attacks Max Mercury from height, but can’t hit. Barry takes height on Blacksmith, but can’t hit her. Magenta flies out to the street and puts one wound on Max Mercury from height. Blacksmith takes a swipe from Barry and fails an attack on Max Mercury. Barry takes height on Blacksmith and KO’s her. Ouch. Blacksmith had OM3.

Round 3: Initiative Rogues. Tar Pit fails an attack on Max. Jay switches Magenta and Tar Pit with his Disorienting Whirlwind and hits Magenta for a wound. Captain Cold can’t hit Jay. Barry can’t hit Magenta. Barry punches Magenta for two wounds, then runs for cover.

Round 4: Initiative Team Flash. Max fails to hit Magenta, then runs to cover. Mirror Master hits Jay for a wound with major height. Jay uses Disorienting Whirlwind to swap Max and Magenta, but he can’t KO Magenta. Mirror Master hits Max for a wound from major height. Barry KO’s poor Magenta, who never could hit on Magnetic Throw Defense. Mirror Master takes out Max Mercury from major height.

Round 5: Initiative Team Flash. Realizing Tar Pit has their path blocked, Jay runs beneath the overhang on the destructible wall and tries to punch the breakable part, but fails. Tar Pit makes it a reality, but moving adjacent to both Speedsters and sticking them. He can’t hit Jay. Barry hits Tar Pit for two wounds on his fourth try with his special attack. Mirror Master goes Through the Mirror World with Captain Cold. He can’t get height advantage due to the speedsters hiding. Barry can’t hit Tar Pit. Captain Cold can’t hit Jay.

Round 6: Initiative Team Flash. Barry can’t hit Tar Pit. Captain Cold rolls all skulls but can’t hit Jay. Barry can’t hit Tar Pit with his special attack either. Captain Cold can’t finish Jay. Barry can’t hit Tar Pit. Mirror Master hits Jay for a wound.

Round 7: Initiative Rogues. Captain Cold KO’s Jay. Tar Pit gets to go then and hits Barry for two wounds. Barry can’t hit Tar Pit. Captain Cold KO’s Barry, stealing his round. Tar Pit moves next to Mirror Master. Mirror Master goes Through the Mirror World towards Zatanna’s building.

Round 8: Initiative Rogues. Mirror Master goes Through the Mirror World into the building with Zatanna. Zatanna advances but fails to hit Captain Cold. She fails to mindwipe Tar Pit. Captain Cold hits Zatanna for a wound and Tar Pit engages her and hits her for a wound. Zatanna hits Tar Pit for a wound, then Mindwipes Captain Cold. Captain Cold had OM3. Zatanna KO’s Tar Pit. Zatanna fails a mindwipe attempt on Mirror Master.

Round 9: Initiative Rogues. Mirror Master catches Zatanna whiffing for one wound. Zatanna blasts Mirror Master for a wound. He uses Rogue Retreat to disengage, while Zatanna is stuck in engagement with a mindwiped Captain Cold. On his next turn Mirror Master attacks and gets in the final wound on Zatanna.

Unit Summary: Taking out Max and Jay was a pain, but once they were down, Barry and Zatanna didn’t have enough fire power left to deal with the coordination of the Rogues. A key turning point was when Barry threw attack after attack at Tar Pit after Max fell and couldn’t KO him in time to go after Captain Cold, who later took him out. Mirror Master’s ability to teleport around allies (he never got to teleporting any enemies) was a key component in making his team nasty and competitive on a map with lots of elevation changes). Major height and some dice luck accounted for his attack prowess here.

Bruce brings the Bat-Grapple. Golden Glider chooses Mirror Master (Evan).
Round 1: Initiative Bat Family. Titans Go! and Damian, Batgirl, and Nightwing all pile into the elevator in the east wing of Skyscraper. Captain Cold has Mirror Master (Sam) go Through the Mirror World to the fourth floor (the top floor on the top unit) and shoot out a window. Mirror Master brought Tar Pit and Top with him. Mirror Master (Evan) sends Golden Glider 12 spaces Through the Looking Glass to the far edge of the fourth floor. Nightwing rides the elevator to the fourth floor and out he pops with Damian and Batgirl. Damian comes out into engagement with Top, Batgirl into engagement with Tar Pit, and Nightwing hits Top for two wounds, triggering Rogue Retreat. Mirror Master (Sam) goes solo back to his start zone, adjacent to Trickster. Captain Cold goes, moving adjacent to Mirror Master (Sam) and then has Sam go Through the Mirror World to the fourth floor with Cold and Trickster in tow. Bruce punches out the back window.

Round 2: Initiative Rogues. Tar Pit engages Nightwing, then catches him whiffing for three quick wounds. Top hits Damian for a wound. Titans, Go! Batgirl KO’s Top, Damian hits Captain Cold for two quick wounds. Mirror Master (Sam) uses Rogue Retreat to move to where Tar Pit can act as a screener more effectively. Nightwing can’t hit Tar Pit with his Escrima. Tar Pit can’t hit Nightwing. Golden Glider’s Tendrils finish Nightwing, though. Damian benefits from the Contingency Plan and grapples to Golden Glider and hits her for a wound. Mirror Master (Sam) moves Damian adjacent to Tar Pit. Tar Pit fails an attack on Damian. Damian hits Tar Pit for two wounds.

Round 3: Initiative Bat Family. Damian puts a wound on Tar Pit. Tar Pit and Golden Glider both fail to hit Damian. Damian follows the Secret Attack Plan, but can’t hit Tar Pit. Golden Glider KO’s Damian with her Tendrils. Tar Pit attacks Batgirl. She sees it coming and just blocks. Batgirl KO’s Tar Pit. Captain Cold rescues Tar Pit’s OM3 to Mirror Master (Sam) who moves to maximize his range on Batgirl and hits her for one wound even though she sees it coming. Golden Glider fails to hit Batgirl with her Tendrils, but Intangibility protects her from any blow back.

Round 4: Initiative Batman Family. Bruce Wayne goes. First, Alfred remote extracts Batgirl. Then Alfred goes to the elevator to wait. Bruce goes to join him. Golden Glider flies out onto the roof, on top of the Bat Family’s ground unit. Captain Cold puts three wounds on their elevator, rendering it inoperable. Alfred moves towards the stairs and shoots out a window with his shotgun. Bruce moves towards the stairs. Golden Glider flies down to engage Oracle and fails to hit her. Captain Cold moves over towards Trickster and Mirror Master (Sam). Bruce goes. Alfred shotgun blasts Tim Drake in order to get Golden Glider, but neither takes a wound. Bruce takes the stairs to the next floor and punches out the window. Mirror Master (Sam) and Trickster reposition to get ready to move next round. Bruce removes himself from the game (Dark Knight Rises).

Round 5: Batman appears next to Golden Glider and Tim Drake. Initiative Rogues. Golden Glider uses her Tendrils to hit Oracle for a wound. Mirror Master (Sam) goes Through the Mirror World with Captain Cold and Trickster, out onto the ground floor of the Bat Family unit. Batman follows the Secret Attack Plan and punches Golden Glider for two wounds. Tim Drake finishes her off. Captain Cold rescues her Order Markers onto Trickster. Trickster hits Tim Drake for one wound with the Itching Powder Bomb. Captain Cold hits Oracle for a wound. Batman attacks Captain Cold and misses. Mirror Master (Sam) uses Rogue Retreat to move the crew to the roof of the unit to avoid more Batarangs and Robin. Robin repositions. Trickster flies down and whiffs an attack on Oracle. Mirror Master (Sam) goes Through the Mirror World with Captain Cold. Batman smacks Captain Cold for two wounds. Captain Cold Flash Freezes Robin to his space. Robin can only attack Trickster but, hey, look over there …. Trickster can’t hit Oracle. Mirror Master pings Batman for a wound. Captain Cold has Trickster attack, but Trickster can’t hit Oracle.

Round 6: Initiative Rogues. Mirror Master can’t hit Batman and Trickster can’t hit Oracle. Batman follows the Secret Attack Plan and KO’s Captain Cold. Mirror Master uses Rogue Retreat to go Through the Mirror World back adjacent to Mirror Master (Evan). Tim Drake can’t hit Trickster. Mirror Master (Sam) takes Mirror Master (Evan) Through the Mirror World and into engagement with Batman. Batman rolls all skulls against Mirror Master (Sam) and KO’s him. Robin is itching too hard to move and hits Trickster for a wound from range. Trickster fails to hit Oracle.
Round 7: Initiative Bat Family. Batman Bat-Grapples next to Trickster. Batgirl Bat-Grapples next to Mirror Master (Evan). Batman attacks Trickster, but, hey, look over there …. Trickster finally KO’s Oracle. Batman can’t get heals from Alfred but does punch Trickster for a wound. Robin punches Trickster for a wound. Trickster falls to an Evasive Strike. Batman still can’t heal but does locate MM (Evan), his batarang just isn’t sharp enough. MM (Evan) fools Robin with a Mirror Image and ends up on the roof. From there he shoots down the stairs at Alfred with major height and hits Alfred for a wound. Batman can’t heal but grapples through the back windows to engage MM (Evan). Batman picks the right image and hits MM (Evan) for two wounds. MM (Evan) sends Batman 11 spaces Through the Looking Glass, to a couple spaces from the Rogue start zone on the other unit’s ground floor. MM (Evan) KO’s Alfred.

Round 8: Initiative Rogues. Mirror Master comes down the stairs and tries to send Batgirl Through the Looking Glass, but nowhere on the battlefield is 18 spaces from where she is. He refrains from attacking due to fear of her Defensive Premonition. Robin fails to pick the right image, and MM (Evan) goes back to the top of the stairs on the second floor of the unit. MM (Evan) comes down the stairs, but can’t hit Robin. Robin whiffs an attack back. MM (Evan) hits Robin for a wound. Batgirl rolls all skulls, picks correctly, and KO’s MM (Evan).

Unit Summary: Mirror Master (Sam) was invaluable here for transportation, the Rogues just got depleted a bit too much before they were able to fully take on Batman. This one felt fairly balanced and the Skyscraper and Mirror Master’s teleportation definitely informed the rules of engagement.

Through the Mirror World looks mostly good, but two changes - first line rephrased to be a little more standard (I think), and added a "you may" instead of an "if possible" for the placement stuff just because, eh, you never know, things can always change after you've made that first move.
