Re: Really Evil Movie Villains
I'm a big fan of Febre in the Musketeer (played by Tim Roth). He just kills people for absolutely no reason. And, if he has a reason, he kills them faster.

Re: Really Evil Movie Villains
Well, I guess I'm going to go the "obvious and overrated" rout, and say that my favorite movie villain is the Joker from the Dark Knight, I thought he was funny... in a really creepy, get out of my face kinda way.

My vote goes to the villagers in "Hot Fuzz".
How evil do you have to be to kill a man who acts like a golden statue? |

Re: Really Evil Movie Villains
Nice thread, I agree with a lot that has been said, and don't want to repeat, but a few things must be commented on.
-2nd post with WhiteStuff, Brick Top, I think he was good, evil enough, with the dog fights, in my opinion, that shows the depth of evil. HAL is evil, in our perspective, despite being a computer. It is probably easier to label him so because of that. I think a few times evil/insanity is on a close line, and sometimes you have to take a grain of salt with mental illnesses/evil. It's the reason why so many people don't get off when they plead crazy in court in a crime. If they took the measure to hide that they did something wrong, then they would tell apart good and evil, meaning they knew right from wrong, and are mentally stable (Enough) Now for my extremely unpolished and stream-of-conciousness rant. No one really mentioned Dr. Hannibal Lecter, though he was discussed for a moment. I think this is telling. I don't see Lecter as "evil" as he is meant to be the anti-hero. I'm going by books and movies, mind, as I'm a big Thomas Harris fan. I've read everything, written reports, done speeches on it, etc. Now, Lecter is "bad" and "immoral" and his actions may be considered "evil" but he was also considered insane enough to be kept under lock and key. However, Lecter is someone we root for as a hero. He only kills those who are rude. He takes care of the bad guys. He gives advice to the true heroes. He is almost like a sidekick, though he is also the enemy. He was tragically altered as a child (based on many, many real life different killers--for those interested I have an essay and a speech) and most of his actions come out of the mental stress and trauma. He is always considered a movie villian, in other lists, etc. ,when really he is the hero, though one NOT to emulate. We never want to see him caught, we always want him to get away. He kills innocent in the time of the books/movies who get in his way, but they are usually those that "have it coming to them" as we can see. He NEVER just does someone in, he has his reasons, always. Who are the victims in the series? Women, children, innocent? They are killed by the other villians, the Red Dragon, Buffalo Bill--these are the "evil" villians, also mentally ill, but not as brilliant and controlled as Lecter. Lecter knows his nature, and he can control it. He takes revenge, he does what he has to to meet his means, but he is left at the end of the series (the chronological end of his story) to a happy life, out of the radar with his love. If he were "evil" and couldn't control himself, he would have slipped up, made a mistake, and been caught again. His self-control shows that even though he is insane, he knows right from wrong, does he not? He is truly a paradox, because that itself would mean he is not insane, but we cannot doubt him to be so. But evil? I never can find myself to think so. Just the horrible result of other human evil (War crimes, no spoilers, etc) and the immorality of society. Most of the villians mentioned may be like that, but it is interesting that Lecter was not brought up before with them. I don't know if this is because he wasn't thought of, or if others think of him the same way. Not very well stated, but just a little rant on it. [And DeceitfulBeauty finally beat NecroBlade at Heroscape. With Iron Man.]

Re: Really Evil Movie Villains
Christipher Lloyds role as Judge Doom (I think that was his name) in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Speaking of Rabbits... General Woundwort from Watership Down. In the book chewing off another Rabbits ears doesn't sound that bad, but seeing it in animated format was brutal. |
