Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
It makes sense to me for Kingsley to clock higher than Norman. I don't think he should be encroaching on Carnage territory, though, even if the C3G Carnage is kinda low-end. I think 275 is pushing it a little bit.
Definitely agreed with tweaking the SA to moderate his power level before the stats. |

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
That also indicated that he is smarter than Norman. Not sure about the devious part.

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
So how about going with this:
PESTERING PURSUIT SPECIAL ATTACK Range 4. Attack 3. When Hobgoblin attacks with this special attack, he may attack two additional times. He must attack the same figure with each attack. Before each additional attack, Hobgoblin may move up to 2 spaces. That drops him to 2 possible moves per turn (one between attack 1 and attack 2, one between attack 2 and attack 3) and doesn't let him fly away at the end of the turn. I think that inability to kite will make him less of a headache for mid-level heroes to deal with. If he's still feeling oppressive, we can tweak the number of dice rolled. With that I think 260 (or maybe 265, since he rolls with the Street Thugs) would be fine by me. JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!

I'd go 265, but sounds good.

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
Quote:
Norman Osborn cast a long shadow in the greater Marvel universe, Roderick Kingsley not so much so. Osborn was first a wealthy and powerful industrialist (Oscorp), then he became the Green Goblin where his new found crazy mixed with his former brilliance lead to an unpredictable and dangerous foe. He then later reinvented himself and became Iron Patriot, ran the HAMMER organization. Kingsley was just first a failed fashion designer, a sane and predictable dude who modified the Green Goblin formula and tech to help him build a criminal empire. He's a fun Spidey villain that I've long wanted a card for, but he's just another guy in the rouge gallery. |

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
I'm cool with those changes and 265 for public testing. If that's your intent (and I reserve the right to take it back if others convince me with concerns) here's my pre-yea for public playtesting.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
I favor him ending in a '5' as well since the Street Thugs x3 would end in a '5' and he seems like the type that is more of a criminal organization leader that a stand alone guy. |

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
Norman wasn't even the best Green Goblin for a long time. He was dead for like twenty years and Harry stepped into the mantle in that time and really brought it to new heights. Hobgoblin also debuted while Norman was dead, so he was more of a successor than the redundant villain he kinda looks like when you have Norman also running around.
I feel a lot of the heavy mythologizing of Norman as Spidey's definitive arch-enemy is down to the stuff written after Norman was resurrected in the 90s. There have been some really good Norman stories since then, but I don't love the way his return undercut his successors. |

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
Yeah, Norman's only real shining moment during his initial tenure was throwing Gwen Stacy off a bridge and then accidentally killing himself. Which is, of course, a big deal, but relatively narrow in scope.
In any case, SP is updated with 265 and the tweak to his Pursuit above. I'll wait a bit before calling a vote, but Pre-Yeas are welcome. JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!

Re: The Book of Hobgoblin (Initial Playtesting)
Well, he was also the first villain to figure out Peter's secret identity, which took some cleverness. Of course, he did accidentally blow himself up and give himself amnesia after that... Norman-classic had even worse luck than Peter.
