Number 2 here. HEH, I consider them to be what the GW folks call bladedancers. They have turned combat into a deadly dance and can use any weapon as part of their routine.

Reminds me of the MK Steppe Rangers. They seem to fit that bill perfectly and I think they'd be great as proxy Ashras IF their MK base could fit in the ladder rungs.

#2 for me. She looks relaxed but lethal. #1 is fine, but not particularly interesting. #3 bothers me with her little skirt and way too much weaponry (does she need the axe AND sword?). It just gives me that weak girl "I can fight too" feeling

Yet again, the theme doesn't fit the sculpts or powers.

1) They don't look particularly agile, nor were amazons considered particularly agile. Traditionally, they had strength (to fight men) and ranged.
So why they make a dexterous-in-melee unit, I don't know.....

2) Elves? Huh?!
Did they mis-read their mythology books? Amazons would be from Earth, and would be human.

3) They don't look like 3 grunt warrior figures.

Well, it doesn't say Amazon anywhere on the card (maybe the bio does.) I think we at HSers.com started the Amazon title. They are female, Elven warriors. I agree they don't look too agile but maybe they move so fast we can't see them move...yeah that's it (can you say "The Claw"?)

Go back to your races chapter in the AD&D book. These ladies are Wild Elves.

LilNewb is right, Hasbro never called them Amazons...Scapers did.

Let me get geeky for you:

Quote:
Wild Elf

The Elves described in the Player's Handbook are High Elves. Wild Elves are a hardier breed of Elf that resides in the dry wastelands in the South West part of the continent. High Elves are more commonly found among the forests and glades North of the Wastelands.

Wild Elves live in tribes of roughly 30 to 100 people. Because of the long, slow Elven life cycle very few children are counted among the numbers of any one tribe. The Wild Elf tribes deliniate themselves into rough associations as the wastelands turn from high-grass plains in the north to dry-scraggly savanah to sandy desert in the south.

A more tribal and nomadic people then High Elves, Wild Elves maintain Elven elegance and grace despite a simplier wardrobe of leather, furs, and simple weaves. Living in warm to hot climates also encourages the use of minimal and/or loose fitting outfits.

Each tribe is mostly self-sufficient, trading with local population centers for raw materials that they can not find in their natural surroundings such as metal ores. Wild Elven wood carvings, compsite bows, clothing, and fabrics are well received with merchants. Wild Elves often. Since money is worhtless inside their community, Wild Elves often do not carry any and may pool what they do have for large, tribal purchases.

Wild Elves share their northern cousins' attitude about everything non-Elven. However, their more precarious life in the waste-lands has given them an appreciation for the contributions that can be made by the other races, especially Humans, Halflings, and Dwarves. They are wary of most Gnomes, considering them to be meddlers in magic and dangerous out of their disrespect for artifacts and constructs. Their appreciation of individual noble Humans is tempered by their observations of the often short-sited and selfish acts of Human leadership.

Hardened by their surroundings yet appreciative of life, Wild Elves live by the motto: "Live as if you will die tomorrow. Fight as if you will live forever." Wild Elves are generous to those they view as good and merciless to those they view as evil.

Wild Elves are fond of magic, but prefer the more "natural" magic of Sorcerers to that of Wizards. While combat is a defining part of every Wild Elf's life, they train in every class possible. Multi-classing is particularly popular, especially Fighter/Sorcerers, Rogue/Sorcerers, and Barbarian/Sorcerers. Wild Elves are rarely Monks, Paladins, or Wizards. Wild Elf Monks and Wizards would have to leave their home for training in the North among a different race and the life-styles of Paladins and Wizards are not well suited to that of a Wild Elf tribe. Wild Elves are more likely to be Rangers then Paladins, but an equal number of Clerics and Druids exist in Wild Elf tribes. While Wild Elf Clerics acknowledge Corellon Larethian as the father of all Elves, they focus their worship on a clan totem. This totem is usually an animal that is seen as representative of Corellon.

That's irrelevant.

Go back to the demographics of the game, and the source inspiration (army men vs robots vs dinosaurs) - over 90% of the target audience would recognize them as Amazons, and in this game stereotypes are a required element since genres must be represented with very little text/visual support.

Since they stereotypically were identified as Amazons, than the designer who thought to make them Wild Elves is not on board with the entire concept of the game, IMO.

I would REALLY like to know if Craig made them, or someone else (as all of Wave 5 feels like it was designed by someone different) - and if they could slip us a note at HSers and let us know what the inspiration was for the Warriors and why their race was chosen to be Elf and not human.

I mean, would it kill the game or spill precious corporate secrets if they just told us stuff that harmless?

His inspiration would be Female Elven Warriors...and it is relevant since we are the ones that deemed them Amazons. There maybe some ties to them but that doesn't mean Craig and crew have to follow the source material religiously also Amazons aren't the only source material they could have used. Other books and stories have had units of fighting women. Warzone had an Imperial unit (can't remember the official name atm) but they were a group of women who had lost loved ones, namely their husbands, and in their grief decide to fight in the war.
