Tactical Plans: Hit Hard And Furious
Figures Required, Sgt. Drake Alexander (SOTM), Einar Imperium, Marcus Decimus
At first Drake has a mind boggling speed of 7, not to mention the Imperium's 6. Which is good first anyway, but it gets better. I you can get Marcus onto a Glyph of Velda it makes Sgt. Drake's move 9, and the Imperiums 8. Go and demolish your enemy by having the first strike, most useful for the Imperium. But at ALL COSTS PROTECT MARCUS, without him your army is good, but not a hitting hard team force it used to be. This is also quite a nice strategy when raiding any castles, with the Imperium's move of 6, or 8, they can easily fly over the castle, open the door, and kill a few units in the process. You may also add Empress Kiova, but with her slow speed, considered to 6 or 8, she might get left behind as the Imperium charge the enemy. |

that's seems like a good first attack section of a big army. I would suggest this strategy for big battles where juggernauts can do some nice damage (a.k.a. all squads)

Sorry, Ullarrocks, but this isn't detailed enough, and it's way too limiting to have a strategy that depends on a glyph. I've received a lot of fire for having strategy plays in a game with limitless possibilities, so the quality of the stuff being put in the Strategic Maneuvers Index is being closely monitered.
Jugger It's like football with swords or LARPing without the geeky stuff. In other words, it's awesomely perfect! |

I changed your title.

I rarley if ever use glyphs and it is easy to lose one so I agree tactics should not require a glyph.

Even without the glyph, the Imperium might still be fast, but Drake will own. I mean 7 MOVE!!!

I usually prefer to hold Drake back until I've wiped out some of my opponent's stronger special attacks.

Look at the number of unit-specific posts that describe—for example—the Deathreavers or other relatively low-cost units as "glyph-grabbers." Should we condemn the authors of those posts for mentioning glyphs, as if they were a part of the game of which we are ashamed? Fie! Glyphs are as much a part of the game as trees or roads—moreso, since glyphs are included with the Master Sets, while trees and roads are not. It is as reasonable to formulate a strategy that depends upon the presence or absence of specific glyphs as it is to formulate a strategy that depends upon the presence or abscence of specific units or terrain features. Much of the application of strategy involves "reading" the battlefield before play even begins: some strategies apply to some battlefields, and not to others. This includes the location and type of glyphs as much as whether the terrain is flat or highly contoured. Would it have been better for the original poster to have included a line such as "Required Glyphs: " in addition to "Required Units:"? Probably, yes. In the future, as we see more such articles appear—and we will: have no doubt of it!—we should specify the conditions under which the strategy is applicable in the article header, e.g. with lines for required units, required glyphs, required terrain, and similar information. Also, in the case where alternatives exist, they should be mentioned in the main text, e.g. Eldgrim can replace some applications of the Glyph of Velda in much the same way that Taelord can replace some applications of the Glyph of Astrid. But to simply say that we should not develop or communicate strategies that involve specific glyphs because they are somehow less "accessible" does some violence to the role that glyphs play in the game. —SD Hic est qui sumus |

I have played with glyphs only once. My group never plays with glyphs. They change the game much too drastically. We prefer to rely on our own strats and the luck of the dice (which gets cursed regularly!).
