Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
Ronin has a fair point. The boost we're talking about here is so small that it barely makes a difference. I'm going to compromise on this and leave Fighters in. I will now propose a move to Initial Playtesting at 230 points.

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
I think The Ol One Two needs to be a special attack, even a 2 Attack Special that says you can only use it if Wildcat attacks with his normal attack and fails to inflict a wound. As is, saying your attacking but can only roll 2 attack dice is weird with height, Cap and Starlord, and other factors.
The last sentence of Fight Coach probably needs to be more clear, too, and specify that it only affects your figures. Why exactly is he buffing what are mostly Marvel characters though? |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
You have my yea if you want to start testing your card idea here, but I'm not really sure how well it will go. Just seems like the 1st and 3rd power are fighting against each other. First one suggest you put him in the middle of a pod army and remain unengaged, the other one suggest you put him on the front lines backed up by defense boosters and healers, then leave him engaged. Since I'm not much of a pod army kind of guy, and I find Bane difficult to keep adjacent to my attackers, I personally would just focus my army building and tactics on the 2nd & 3rd powers while ignoring the 1st one. Draft him with Star Lord & the Invisible Woman and see what kind of damage I can get out of his counter strike power at 6 defense.
This idea just popped into my head now after all this discussion, but what if instead of trying to coach everyone on the team all at once mid-battle, he just choose one figure at the start of the game that he 'coached up' prior to the battle. Then that chosen figure takes the lessons learned with him where ever he goes. FIGHT COACH At the start of the game, choose a Fighter or Protege figure you control without the Super Strength special power to be Wildcat's Student. For the rest of this game, Wildcat's Student may re-roll any blanks rolled when attacking an adjacent figure. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
To be totally honest, I can't believe that I didn't think of that approach before, YodaKing. I didn't consider the clash of gameplay styles being represented on the current version of the card, but it makes sense now that it's been spelled out. I was hoping for a niche factional bonus, and this fills that role in a different way than I was initially envisioning.
Margloth, thanks for the feedback. The intent is that the second attack is an attack but can't be boosted in any way. The wording definitely needs touching up. Will think on it some more. Quote:

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
I'd do this for clarity:
THE OL' ONE-TWO If Wildcat does not inflict one or more wounds when attacking an opponent's adjacent figure with his normal attack, you may roll two unblockable attack dice against the defending figure. Shorter, gets rid of the weird 'unmodifyable normal attack' confusion Margloth was talking about, and does mostly the same thing (well, apart from breaking through Spidey-Sense and things like that, but most of those involve movement and the dodger should probably have got out of the way of the first hit before Wildcat sets up for the second - I'm okay with Spidey taking the hit if for some reason he fails to do that). Oh, and I like training up one Fighter or Protegee at the start of the game. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
Hard to believe that mechanic for RAD has not been used. Cool.
I think this tweak may work? THE OL' ONE-TWO If Wildcat does not inflict one or more wounds when attacking an opponent's adjacent figure with his normal attack, Wildcat may attack that figure one additional time, rolling exactly 2 attack dice. The chosen figure cannot roll any defense dice against this additional attack. Nice tweak for Fight Coach. Yea |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
Looks like I left out 'normal' attack when I quickly wrote up that last coaching idea, easy addition to make. Glad you liked it.
yea for testing. Just a general question on theme here, the cat 9 lives idea was just brought up in another thread and it made me wonder about it's use here. Is there a big thematic reason for him having 9 lives? Catwoman with 9 lives always make perfect sense to me, but I never really thought much about it after that and I'm not sure what our policy really is on it. Not against it, as I like the rope-a-dope power you have at a lower defense number and high life, just curious about it's inclusion. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
Yea
Wildcat actually has some mystical nine lives thing going on (dude's old as hell and still kicking butt), so 9 Life definitely makes sense here. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
Honestly, Wildcat having nine lives is the only time the whole 'Cat theme somehow gives you nine lives' thing has really made any sense to me and not felt like a weird gimmick.

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Vote for Initial Playtesting)
I'm glad we're getting somewhere here. Yeah, Wildcat actually has 9 lives and has survived some pretty wild stuff in his days. The low defense was intentional to prevent Rope-A-Dope from getting out of hand.
