Not sure what the capture the flag rules will be for you but generally speaking it could be a good idea to take a really fast figure to grab a flag and run off with it. Or even someone like Moon Knight who could grab a flag and then go up into his drop ship and keep the flag off the board for a while. Shadow Thief is another on that can pop in and out, plus depending on your rules, he could take a flag away from someone while they are holding on to it.
If you need someone to 'guard' your flag, you could give Enchantress II & Executioner a try along with an Enchant Spell. Then the core group of Teen Titans being Nightwing, Raven, Starfire, & Wondergirl is pretty sick. Just add in a few spells and some more Titans/Sidekicks to hit 1000 points and they can deal with most anything your opponents bring. |

I know I'm biased, but I really like playing Mordo, Wong, Hypnotise and Mesmerise. Not sure how well it will work with Capture the Flag, but the ability to hit hard and mind control opponents is tonnes of fun. Another little gambit I like using (particularly with this build, though it could work with plenty) is getting a couple of squads of Civvies and Waking Nightmare. Surround target with civvies and your magic user to set the trap, then cast Waking Nightmare to spring it. Cue tonnes of leaving engagement attacks. You can exploit WN in a similar way using Karnilla and a swarm of Moloids - that would be more OM efficient, but I'm not familiar with effective use of Karnilla and so have never tried that.
Selene + Mutant Sidekicks is another great magic user build, or, if you want to go or a more traditional mutant build that's really magic heavy, Xavier, Selene and Scarlet Witch. Selene really likes Mesmerise, as each wound is pretty painful for her. Enchantress vII is also great, and has loads of different and effective bonding options. If you have loads of Magic Users in the game, I'd steer clear of including Strange - Sorcerer Supreme makes him no fun against other magic users, and still needs looking at for tweaking. Also, depending on your rules for Capture the Flag, Doctor Fate with his Teleportation Spell could be... pretty broken. Oh, and if you're looking for spells to go with Raven, let me recommend Hellfire: Ignition - it gives her a nice, hard hitting option she normally lacks, and even if she takes a wound from it, if she's well protected then that can just be used as fodder for Soul Self. |

One last thing, but if you can guarantee spellcasters on the other team, consider pairing Hellfire spells with temporary mind-controllers (magical mind-controllers being Brother Voodoo, Baron Mordo, Doctor Doom vII and Enchantress vII) - that way, if you mind control an opponent's spellcaster and force them to cast one of those, not only are they attacking targets you've picked out but, unless they're a Demon, then you also get a 50/50 chance of your opponent's spellcaster taking a wound at the same time!
