All-Hero Competitive Army Thread
Squads have ruled the tournament scene and swarmed the biggest and best heroes there are.
500 points is a lot to work with, though. Shouldn’t there be a few heroes that can party-up to take on the numbers? There’s a lot of things heroes bring to the table that squads lack: Iconography – Heroes stand out more in a battle, and their presence is more stunning out on the field. Power – Heroes deal the big damage. Durability – only Swarms and 4-man squads stick around as long as a well-played Hero. That being said, squaddies usually make up for that in a lot of ways: Multiple attacks – This is usually only found in squads, and many agree that the best offensive play is the one that hits your opponent with more attacks per man. Swarming – Taking control of the field is a lot easier with a lot of units. If the field is covered with your opponent’s 4th Mass, chances are his 4th are occupying a lot of the more important strategic areas of the map. Swarming is also important when it comes to occupying your opponent’s order marker usage. Expendability – This is a pseudo-benefit. Squad figures are more likely to make daring moves because they are more easily replaced if plans go wrong. This confidence can help you take the battlefield. So how would a hero party begin to prepare to face those odds? 1) Play needs to be smart. More thought is needed to take the best parts of the field, and more caution is needed so you don’t end up where you definitely don’t want to be. You have to be tricky to get the enemy squads where you want them with 1 man. Still, taking chances with some of your more durable units could prove to be a huge benefit. Play smart, but play confident. 2) Heroes need to be able to take a lot of hits to make up for manpower. High-life heroes or High-defense heroes – or both – is a definite benefit. Guilty McCreech is not a valuable addition to this type of army, and is at best a filler. 3) It is very crucial that Heroes can reliably deal out at least their point’s worth. Multiple attacks or the durability to kill enough of the enemy is quite important. Heavy hitters need to be able to swing more than once. 4) Heroes need to work together. No hero can survive being swarmed all by itself, even Q9. Q9, Raelin, and Laglor is another matter, because the Q can easily outrange and out-defend most armies out there. Remember when using Cheerleaders they should be able to be enough of a benefit so that your attackers can make up for their point-cost. Let’s look at a few example combos then, shall we? - Q9 - Raelin - Laglor That’s a good start, no doubt. Range of 10, throws 4 dice, and up closer throws 9 dice and has sick defense. This pillbox probably only lacks 1 thing: a meatshield to keep it from being swarmed to smithereens, and even then it could probably do without one. - Sgt Drake ROTV/SOTM - Major X17 I know this is an oddball fighting duo, but think about it. Swarm armies will need to be next to Drake to attack him, and X17 gets a defense boost to melee attacks. Keep X17 back a little before they come at Drake, then have the duo slice and grapple! The Cyberclaw will keep Drake from being overran by the enemies, and Drake’s attack and high life will win the day. Add Marcus for speed! - Raelin - Syvarris - Theracus The simple Ranged Tank. Mittens makes this a fast tank! - Ulginesh - Emirroon - Arkmer The Elf Yo-Yo, if you don’t know what this is you had better check it out. - Theracus - Bomb Self-explanatory. These are just some of the many many hero combinations available in Heroscape, so I encourage you to give them all a try! What are your army ideas? |

Charos- 210
Thercracus-250 Sonlen- 410 Ray-Ray-490 Isuma-500 The SAT bomb (solen on thecracus) Charos and Ray-Ray for mid game, and Isuma for clean up. Might be lacking in a multi attacker, but charos and his counterstrike makes up for that. Mimring>Krug. 'Nuff said. |

That said, building an army just from heroes is an interesting challenge. Here are a few ideas: Braxas: 210 Nilfheim: 185 Carr/Syvarris/Raelin+Marcu/Brandis+Isamu:100 Total: 495pts, 5-6 hexes. Major Q10: 150 Laglor: 110 Agent Skahen: 120 Agent Carr: 100 Otonashi: 10 Isamu: 10 Total: 500pts, 7 hexes. Hydra x4: 480 Marcu: 20 Total: 500pts, 9 hexes. Major Q9: 180 Sonlen: 160 Raelin: 80 Kelda: 80 Total: 500pts, 5 hexes. |

Re: All-Hero Competitive Army Thread
If you thought Raelin was strong before, try pairing her with some heroes. Her worth really goes up when she has life to protect. Also, the healers come into their own a bit in these situations.
Fen Hydra x2 - 240 Raelin - 320 Kelda - 400 Special Attacking Hero - Desired Point Total Major Q9 - 180 Raelin - 260 Sonlen - 420 Kelda - 500 Ana Karithon - 100 Raelin - 180 Syvarris - 280 Sonlen - 440 Major Q9 - 180 Laglor - 290 Raelin - 370 Agent Skahen - 490 (Add Dund at 600) Ana Karithon - 100 Raelin - 180 Laglor - 290 Agent Skahen - 410 Air Elemental x3 - 500 Ulginesh - 150 Emirroon - 230 Arkmer - 280 Chardris - 370 Jorhdawn - 470 Raelin - 550 Like battle reports? Re: All-Hero Competitive Army Thread
To have a competitive all hero team, you need figures that have multiple attacks so you can deal with squads.
There are lots of good choices already presented. Lately, I really like the Fen Hydra. I would add... 180 Q9 80 Kelda 240 Hydra x 2 |

Re: All-Hero Competitive Army Thread
I played a variation of this recently that I really liked:
Ana Karithon 120 Raelin 80 Syvarris 100 Sharwin Wildborn 110 Atlaga 90 500/5 Sharwin makes it difficult for squads to approach en masse. Syvarris forces the engagement to take place wherever the pod wants to set up and fight. Atlaga is a major threat to heavy hitters. Your opponent has to do quite a bit to void the combined defensive boosts of Ana and Raelin - especially if any of the foes are Utgar-led. ~Aldin, who would trade Atlaga for Kaemon Awa with another 30 points He either fears his fate too much or his desserts are small That dares not put it to the touch to gain or lose it all ~James Graham |
