In the Heat of Battle Discussion

Two armies desperately search for each other in the dim, fog laden morning. Suddenly the fog clears and the forces discover that they are closer to the enemy than they knew. Players bring order markers, wound markers, dice, cards, and a pre-drafted 400 point Heroscape army that does not exceed 26 spaces. There are no starting zones as players will take turns placing units anywhere on the battlefield except glyph spaces. It is a chaotic and furious variant sure to please any level of player.

Chaotic and furious? Hmmm, I have bad feeling that many matches will be boards full of robo-rats in an endless scattering dance.

So what are some good armies to counter Nilfheim + Deathreavers x5 or Major Q9 + Deathreavers x5?

Still loses because the Reavers x5 army can surround Braxas while Q9 shreds her.

Unless you don't mind taking 8 (!) passing swipes.

Well anything with a special attack will keep the reavers from scattering.

If you really want to control the flow of figures, the cyber-claw would work here. A swarm of glads and blasts could do well.

Agent Carr or the Ninjas. Ghost Walk, Disenage and a decent attack value that can take on the big boys.

Did you read the event description? Units are placed one card at a time. That means your first 4 or 5 cards of units are automatically going to be surrounded by Deathreavers. Scattering is not the issue. The issue is being trapped by a gazillion 4-defense units while the heavy hitter kills whatever you have.

How about deathstalkers?

They have high defense, a average attack, and they are pretty fast.

The maul attack could take care of the rats by preventing them from scattering, since you have to roll defense dice in order to scatter... the wording in maul states that the target cannot roll defense.

2x Deathstalkers, Deathwalker 9000, Me-Burq-Sa (who can also eliminate def. dice rolls), and Isuma. 400pts

Fast is irrelevant; most figures will start engaged.

Range value is way down and I mean way down.

Cards with price points based on range and/or movement will not perform as well in this tournament.

2x Deathstalkers, Deathwalker 9000, Me-Burq-Sa (who can also eliminate def. dice rolls), and Isuma.

Maul practically never works. Deathwalker will begin surrounded by 4 deathreavers. Isamu is the best unit in this army, and that's not saying much.

Remember, the problem is not scattering. The problem is engagement, and I don't trust orcs to beat Q9 or Nilfheim. Agent Carr can do some damage, but enough all my himself. And the Ninjas get ripped to shreds because of their low defense and vulnerability to special attacks.

What about Imperium. Steath flying would get you out of the reaver swarm without disengaging and you get 2 attacks with each one. Kiova helps them not to die and Eldgrim could boost their move.
