Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
1917 was excellent and the film worth seeing in a month as movie-desolate as January.

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
Oh, its in the City, I just don't travel much out of my local neighborhood any more--I'm getting old and less mobile. That's why I play most of my boardgames here at my house, where I host them every week and more in what Kolakoski calls "The Game Palace" (my man cave).
Anyone nearby or visiting NYC is always welcome to drop over; just PM me with your regular email to get my monthly Invitation Schedule! For example, our New York City Gang of Four has been Scaping monthly for 13 years now. See my signature line below for our thread. |

If I ever make it back to NYC, I'll certainly see if anything is going on and drop in if so.

We put in our Man From UNCLE DVD last night. Man, that movie is so much fun. It's sad that it didn't make enough money to get a sequel.

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
yeah, we enjoyed that one.
Finally saw Aquaman! It struck a nice tonal balance between fun and action without ever drifting into farce or self-serious "grittiness." C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
Honestly the movies in theaters are really good right now! Or maybe because I'm out of college and have the time to go the theaters I just appreciate what's out more. I haven't seen 1917 but it's on my list. Want to see Little Women too but will probably get around to that when it's out of theaters.
I don't know if it's still in theaters but I saw Knives Out pretty recently and it's pretty good. I like Rian Johnson. The Last Jedi was better, but this one was pretty fun. I don't get why people are fixated on it as a murder mystery when the murder mystery is really just a vehicle to talk about American dinner table politics. Uncut Gems is really really good. It's so interesting and tense. Adam Sandler really does an incredible job as the main character. I like the part when he says "this is how I win". I like how they picked such an irrelevant NBA playoff series (Celtics Sixers second round 2012) to center this movie around. This is my number one recommendation for movies right now, see it before it leaves theaters since I don't think the intensity will translate as well watching it at home. I saw Parasite at the fancy theater in town this weekend which was pretty good too. I didn't think it was very subtle, but it was well-executed. 10 Years of Gencon/Scapecon Battle Reports - Comic Battle Reports - Probability Calculator App - Reverse the Whip Army Archetypes "It's all about the game." - Sgt. Birds of Prey
Really enjoyed it. They did a good job of maintaining the energy level while telling like five origin stories. Enjoyed all the characters but Huntress was exceptional in her limited role. Pretty mild for an R rated movie. |

Glad to hear it's a good one! Hoping to see it with Mrs. Bats for our Valentine's date.

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
1917 made it to the neighborhood, and I enjoyed it very much. Not perhaps the best film to see in a dinner movie theater;, but I happily munched my burger while watching rats popping out of corpses. Have I become hardened, or just seem to many gory movies to care anymore?

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
Birds of Prey last week. I also thought it was good. Pretty similar to the origins, but with a few changes. I liked the references to other characters and movie events without them being seen or in the movie. I'm sure the Hollywood switch for Cassandra from killer to thief was out of necessity, but I am not sure how they will play her moving forward. It was enjoyable from start to end.
