The Historyscape team aims to explore the virtually limitless possibilities associated with creating a set of HeroScape custom units that are fully compatible with the existing game mechanics. We will dedicate our time to designing our units through discussion, debate, and meticulous research, playtest these figures with existing units, and generating cards and figures where applicable to ensure that Historyscape may be fully incorporated into the HeroScape universe. New members are always welcome, as different cultural perspectives combined with a broadening of resources will only allow us to improve ourselves and bring us closer to our goal. Our frame of reference is extremely vast. With the entirety of the Internet plus countless primary and secondary historic sources that exist in libraries, archives, and research papers, we can ensure that people of any research ability will be able to contribute to reaching our end-goal.

For simplicity of navigation, this thread acts as a unified centre of activity. Below is a list of threads that members may go to for quick access to the ins and outs of our group. Note: individual sub-project threads will be constantly updated in this list, so ensure you check back frequently in case a new sub-project has arisen that you can’t wait to get your hands on!

This thread, as you might have noticed above, is to provide a general overview of our project, establish our governance structure, establish a few guidelines of expectations for the project, and have general discussions where we might toy through a few ideas that don’t yet belong in the brainstorming thread (for example, what eras and armies we want to go with next).

The Historyscape Voting Thread

The purpose of this thread is to host team-wide votes. As a general rule, almost every time a decision is going to be made, a vote will be held. The details on what you will actually be voting on will be found within this thread, as well as all those who have voted for it or against it. It is also here that you will cast your own votes relating to how this project will be managed. Only one vote shall be carried out at a time to avoid confusion. note: you will only be given a vote if you are a registered member of the project (see below under “Becoming a Member”).

Spoiler Alert!

The purpose of this thread is to give members a place where they can organise playtests with other members of the team as well as to provide a centralised location through which you may post feedback for any units/armies you have playtested. As a general rule, we will only run playtesting for one proposed unit from each sub-project at a time. This is to avoid administrative clutter. At any given time, if a member feels that a unit has been sufficiently playtested, they may propose that we go to vote. In this case, if this proposal is seconded by any other member, a new vote shall be opened in the voting thread.

The Historyscape Design Thread Outline

This thread contains the basic coding and format for any and all future design threads. While you are not REQUIRED to use this format, using it will ensure that you don't miss anything important when a Warlord decides to consolidate their efforts to a specific unit/map/glyph.

The Historyscape Graphics and Arts Thread

For our more artistically inclined members, this thread is going to be hosting a mixture of business and pleasure. For those that get inspired by the work that we do, please feel free to post fanfics, fanart, banner designs, etc. on this thread. We are a supportive bunch that would love to see our creative members thrive.

In terms of business side of things, this thread will host proposed custom cards and figures for the units we create. Once a figure and card has been submitted for a specific unit, a new vote will be cast to accept those as applicable to the unit in question. This will give the unit leave to be playtested.

The Historyscape Finalised Units&Sets Thread

This thread will act as the final home for all units and sets once accepted by the project and its members. The units and sets will be grouped together and indexed accordingly as balanced, playable units that any HeroScaper would be proud to include in his/her very own army.

If you wish to become a member of our project, please simply post your interest on this thread, or PM one of our Generals: LoganTO, flameslayer93 , and boninchese. Shortly after, your name will be added to the list below. Similarly, we ask that you please announce your leaving of the project to one of the above admins in order to keep our membership base up to date.

Rules
Below are the rules, processes, and standards associated with our project.

1. All voting (outside of sub-projects) shall be done in the voting thread.
2. In order for a vote to pass, we require a 50% majority for most decisions.
3. Decisions regarding scrapping projects, removing people from their positions, and removing people from the project require a 2/3 majority.
4. All votes are given 3 days to carry out, with the cut-off time being midnight EST of the third day.
5. As noted above, we will only vote on one thing at a time to avoid confusion.
6. Votes will end early if over 50% of members (or 2/3 where applicable) have voted either one way or the other—there is no point in prolonging an already decided issue.
7. The administrators are granted a veto vote. However, if they wish to use this veto, they must be unanimous in their choice (ie. If one administrator disagrees with the use of the veto, the veto will fail).
8. All designing of units/armies will be done in sub-projects. A sub-project may have at least 3 members at all times. If this number ever drops to 2, the sub-project will be suspended until a third member joins.
9. A member may be a part of UP TO TWO sub-projects. Exceptions are given if a member was part of a suspended project that gains its third member, or at the discretion of the Administrators.
10. ALL sub-projects must have a project manager. This person has the responsibility to contact the Administrators to have all related sub-project threads documented in the required places. They are also in charge of posting proposals related to their project in art, playtesting, voting, etc. They have no more power than any other member of the sub-project.
11. Any member wishing to join an existing sub-project should contact the project manager to inform them for record-keeping purposes.

Steps to create a new unit/army

1. On the general discussion thread, find a group of at least three that agree to a certain era and army of focus.
2. Pose a vote to see if the aforementioned era and army will be made into a sub-project.
3. Elect a project manager.
4. Set up relevant brainstorming and design threads.
5. With your group, figure out what unit you would like to create first.
6. Design said unit, including stats and special abilities.
7. Create a card and find/make a figure to accompany it.
8. Vote on the given card/figurine combo.
9. Playtest this and record results in the playtesting thread along with feedback.
10. Hold a vote to see if this unit can be accepted by the team.
11. Repeat above for other units in the given army+era combination that you have established.

Note: Though you may only playtest a single unit per sub-project, you may continue to brainstorm and design while waiting for playtesting to complete.

Final note: EXPECTATIONS!!!!

As we are working with History, there should be no lack of resources for you. We request that when designing your characters, keep actual historic context in mind. By no means are you expected to research 50 hours for a single unit, but please ensure that you have at least a working knowledge of some of the historic factors that affected your armies and units so as to ensure a level of realism in your project.

If you plan on quoting anybody in the card, please cite your source so that this information might be verified if the need arises to check your source material.

If ever you are in doubt as to what you should consider: remember the following.

OK guys, as to what we said before, I think devoting ourselves to one might limit our efficiency. In reality, we don't need 9 people working on one thing.

As such, I would like to propose that after the last of our nominations go through tonight, we will go to the voting thread and vote for 2 that we can work on. After which point, we can establish who wants to work on which etc etc etc.

Also, I would love cross era synergies I think they're one of the best parts of heroscape.

Both the american west and scottish clans already have heroscape figures associated with them. For that reason, I would like to turn our focus towards a different era.

As for Egypt I would take the era between when northern egypt and southern egypt unified and when it started being taken over by a million other nations.

I believe that the American West is to include more than the Lawmen provided by Hasbro.

Yes, Bobinchese, Though the original figures might have included a few figures, it's like saying that their Viking army is a true representation of the entirety.

What would make American West and Scottish Clans interesting is ensuring that they are able to seamlessly interact with already created units.

Ancient Egypt will now be defined to include the first two Egyptian Dynasties. Dates: 3100 BCE-2686 BCE

Also Bobinchese, I know ancient eras will be longer, but 3000 years is ridiculous considering the vast differences in technologies and tactics over that amount of time.

I realize that it isn't, and I do eventually want to expand upon these preexisting factions. But while we're just starting out, I think our best path would be to focus on a few factions that haven't been touched yet so we can work in a more open environment. Then, once we've gotten a feel for how this all works, I would have no problem with creating units for those preexisting factions.
