Re: Horizon in Sight: Dan's Tale
I am in the process of catching up and will likely have done so by the time you resume posting. I'll leave my thoughts upon completion.

Re: Horizon in Sight: Dan's Tale
I am once again caught up and am glad to see my favorite character Francois returning for the remake. I am curious to see how the story goes, especially from the shifting balance of having very few characters to having a lot fo them. There are, what, 10 named characters in the party? That's a lot to balance.
I will say one of the qualities of this retelling is that while being very similar to the original, it is also different enough that I have no idea where it is going or how it will end, keeping prior readers invested. ~TAF TAF was the Storyteller... in THE ENEMY'S LAST RETREAT |

But now, onward with the posting. We have Chapter Forty-Two - Dissension, quickly followed by Chapter Forty-Three - Decision. Not to be confused by the similar titles. Chapter 43 is one I was really looking forward to writing, as it adds even more character development into the already-full mire of private agendas going on. ~TGRF. |

Re: Horizon in Sight: Dan's Tale
And now we have Chapter Forty-Four - Attack, one of the longer chapters. After this, we have three chapters left until the fourth and final part of Dan's tale. Get ready!

Re: Horizon in Sight: Dan's Tale
Chapter Forty-Five - Healing is now live! As the company recovers and prepares to do what they came here for, hope fades quickly, and despair threatens to engulf them all. How will they be able to fight the resistance they are sure to face?
Also, there are several breaks in the chapters, extra lines between paragraphs indicating pauses or passages of time. Unfortunately, these do not get copied over during posting. There isn't much I can do about it, so for now, a few transitions will seem a bit choppy. I'll use other separators in the future. ~TGRF. |

Re: Horizon in Sight: Dan's Tale
Just FYI, there was a problem with the website which prevented it from being accessed. The problem has now been fixed, and the website is back. So if anyone had stopped reading because of that, you can now continue at your leisure.
Also, I am considering writing a short sequel to this tale. I want to test some new writing methods out, and while I was intending to do so with BaoP, a sequel to HiS is better suited. It's short, not full of additional side plots I'd also have to develop, and it's the perfect scenario for the testing I have in mind. There might be some differences in style, including either multiple PoVs OR a more omniscient narrator, and along with that, no internal dialogue of characters' thoughts. I'm trying to see if I can convey clearly where characters stand without outright saying it (and thus rehashing it all the time). I'll keep you posted. ~TGRF. |

Re: Horizon in Sight: Dan's Tale
Okie-dokie; so I am finally caught up and finished and have my thoughts in order.
First of all: I'd like to rate this fiction as a 8/10. All of my other thoughts require spoilers tags:
Spoiler Alert!
As usual I have no shortage of complaints, but I complain about things because I love them. <3 ~TAF TAF was the Storyteller... in THE ENEMY'S LAST RETREAT |

As far as the sequel, I wouldn't say it's confirmed. It's on the table, but it's still well within the realm of possibility (or even probability) to be swept off the table. I recently got a burst of inspiration for the first installment in BaoP. If that falls through or has problems, then I'll go back to the sequel. But if not, then Dan might have to stay in limbo. But who knows? Maybe another eight years from now I'll come back and write that sequel. ~TGRF. |
