Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
As someone living in the UK, I'm suddenly feeling very interested in these.

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
So we looked into it and getting a laser wood cutter isn't cheap. We're thinking about redesigning these so they could be printed in plastic with a 3D printer. Does anybody here in C3G-land have one? We're thinking about getting a Tevo Tarantula 3D Printer kit.

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
Yeah, I need to appropriate that.
YK has one as well. A female scaper (Jennifer?) posted a bunch of pics of stuff she made. She suggested a printer in her thread. |

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
I have a mini sized one, but have not touched it in forever now. A bit disappointed in how the software worked, you could scale things up and down really easily but you couldn't dictate the specific size you wanted. Which meant I couldn't just find cool 3D files on the internet and scale them to match my gaming/hobby needs. If the files are already scaled to the correct size I can try to print them off. My print bed size is small though so I'm not sure about using it for buildings unless they are chopped up into several smaller files.
White Knight has a much bigger 3D printer than he has been making all kinds of stuff with. I know he creates his own files too so he would be a good person to talk to. There is also a index up that I maintain for 3D heroscape terrain files with several different contributors. Perhaps just post some questions in one of the threads they have been talking in. Here is the index link, it really is only for the final files though and they had a discussion thread as well somewhere. |

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
What software are you using? And can you switch to different software if you don't like the one you're using?

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
The software for my printer was installed in it when it arrived. Something created in house by the company that made the printer.

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
Another really interesting thread in here that seems to have stalled out.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

I think this one stalled out since very few people can actually make it. I thought about this one a lot and even sketched out a a few ideas to "improve" upon it for my uses...(I'm a structural engineer by day) but kind of stopped when I realized I had no way of making these. Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
I think the design could be replicated in foamcore. Haven't had time to get the 3D printer working properly to try that route.

There are several people on here with a 3D printer. I'd be interested to know what the printing cost is. I did come up with a modification that eliminated one of the pieces though to save a bit. I combined the upper female roof piece with the male to male adapter you used to connect the two cubes. I just made the M2M section have a male top and a flat bottom and let that fit in the top of the walls in place of the top female section. Then for the upper story you can just flip the Male section upside down so that the flat side is exposed for the roof. Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Re: The Book of Stackable Buildings
So how do we take the basic concepts here and replicate them for wider use?
Foamcore sounds like one possibility. What could be done with a 3D printer? What would either option cost and what would be the ease of entry for either? edit But if this was something that could be printed and shipped, it's something I'd save up to buy from one of my good friends on here with a 3D printer for sure. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
