Cartographer's Challenge-Fun Maps

Ok guys, here's a chance to get away from balanced map building and try some esthetic creativity. You can read about my project here.

Here's what I am looking for in a "Demo style" map:
  • *New, fresh maps*
  • Epic maps that will fit on a standard banquet table
  • Quick build/clean-up time
  • Multiple expansions
    • Maps with currently available sets only(SotM, FotA, BftU and M:tCB) using all 4 sets
    • Maps with any mix of expansions with at least 4 sets
      • Include only 1 copy of each expansion
  • Asthetically pleasing
  • Easy to play and fun
  • Able to play 2-8 players(Marked starting zones, 12-18 spaces)
Thanks in advance,
xraine69

If you are just looking to get into Scape, I have plenty of terrain to get you started!

Re: Cartographer's Challenge-Demo Maps

Great continuation, xraine69, though it might be slightly more valuable for your purposes if it was build with 'Scape products currently available to retailers: Battle for the Underdark, Fortress of the Archkyrie, MarvelScape, & Road to the Forgotten Forest. I could be wrong about that list but I think that's it.

Anyway, your project, your call.

Fixed. The only issue is there is not a lot of terrain there. But, you are right about the availability. I editted this idea into the OP.

If you are showing the game to new players then you should be using 2 player maps. 8 player game might be fun but waiting for 7 guys to go before you get your turn is boring.

The reason why I said playable for 2-8 players, this way if just a couple of us are playing, a walk-in can jump in. That and the epic maps have more of a WOW! factor to newbies. Use 1 epic map and a couple of smaller 1v1 maps for more experienced players. Thanks for the input.

I personally like this one:

Spoiler Alert!

It uses 1 BftU and 2 RotV. I'm not totally clear on your requirements. Otherwise there are a bunch in my map thread(in sig).

Epic maps do have more of a WOW factor...but once you explain to them how much it will cost to recreate that EPIC map then they might be turned off to the game.

Onacara, It's actually a catch22. You can bring small maps using VW, TJ, RotV, etc. "But, you can't build these maps, because the terrain is unavailable or really expensive on Ebay."

Think Gencon demo maps, just on a smaller scale.

There are 2 catagories of maps.
  1. Maps using 1 set of each available to distributors terrain. BftU, M:tCB, FotA, SotM and RttFF-at least 4 sets for a map
  2. Maps using 4 sets or more of any combination of terrain only limited to 1 copy of each set used.
I am hoping to gather together a selection of maps showing a multitude of terrain.

If you are just looking to get into Scape, I have plenty of terrain to get you started!

Should SotM replace RotV in the requirements? I think Swarm is currently the core classic masterset that is available.

Fixed, meant it to be FotA and forgot about SotM still being available. Thanks

Re: Cartographer's Challenge-Demo Maps

I just did a quick check on all the links for the homepage and it doesn't look like RttFF is available anymore. If anyone knows different please post the link, I've been lookin for a few extra.

That kind of leave the list of readily availble sets looking like this

Good concept for a thread Xraine, hopefully I can contribute more in a few weeks. I think you know what I'm spending my time on right now.
