Weaker unique squad cards for doubling squads?

I understand that in later HS releases, they had less unique squads as people would not be able to combine them.

I notice that in ROTV all squads appear unique. I have been playing with a double set of squad units, but some of them like airborne elite and marro warriors seem a bit OP.

I think I saw mention of custom cards that toned down unique squad powers to "turn them into common squads" so combining them made more sense.

Can anyone please provide me any info on this and if this is a thing people do, or if it's ok to just use two unique sqauds. Thanks!
