Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
I got to watch the new ninja turtle movie the other night. I was gladly surprised at how much I enjoyed it more than the first one. I especially love how they did the villians. Bebop and Rocksteady were so cool. Krang also done well. My wife picked up Captain America Civil war as well but haven't got to that one again. Saw it in the theatre and actually fell asleep. I could have just been super tired though.

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
I watched a new Netflix Original movie called ARQ and it was pretty darn good. A movie set in the future about a scientist who is caught in a time loop. Kept me interested for the full hour and a half run time, good action with some twists as they flesh out the plot. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Sci-Fi movies. Just know that it sets itself up to be the first in a series of movies, although if for some reasons they never make another one it was still enjoyable on it's own.

I watched The Ridiculous 6 on Netflix. I thought it was pretty darn funny. But I am an Adam Sandler fan and actually enjoy most of his dump movies. Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
Introduced my kids to Dune (1984) last night. They were as confused and enthralled with it as I was when I first saw it all those many years ago.
Some of the effects have held up well over time... others, not so much (but those were the ones that weren't that great even by 1980s standards). |

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
Just finished watching X-Men Apocalypse. Every time I watch an X-Men movie I wish they would have approached them like the MCU movies were done. This had the third movie version of Cyclops, and something that was done in X-Men 2 (in the same location no less) suddenly doesn't work (teleporting through a charged metal cage). Even without the multiple movie spanning story planned out from the beginning, there isn't consistency from one movie to the next. It was ok, but I can't watch them without thinking of missed opportunities.
My complaint with the movie itself rather than the movie franchise is that I didn't care for Apocalypse. He just felt like he had the physical presence of an old guy. I always think of the character as physically menacing. Knee jerk reaction wants Ron Perlman. He's bigger, has a better jaw, and a deeper voice. I'm not a fan of the massively overdubbed voice effect to make someone more menacing that they did. Perlman would take less audio effects to get a better version of the same thing. Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?
Showed my youngest son most of the classic from 1981, Excalibur.
Well, I showed him as much as I felt was appropriate. Heh. Funny, we were both eleven years of age when viewing this film. The moment squire Arthur allows Euryens to knight him is still the most spine-tingling scene in the film. Also, I'm only now realizing how much comic book artist Bill Sienkiewicz was influenced by movie poster artist, Bob Peak. Peak's Sienkiewicz's |
