Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
I really like that second power! Could work well alongside Tracer if she keeps her ally moving, and I think helps tie the faction together a bit more too. The first one feels like it could get nasty if Mercy gives attack buffs too, which could be made even worse if you throw any other attack buffer in here.

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
How about allowing the pilot to take wounds for the mech, Aaron Cash style?
It would only be 1 or 2 with her 3 Life but would add that extra tanky-ness at least from smaller attacks. |

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
I dig that second Play to Win power Nobody posted.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
So I've just come back from playing 3 games with D.Va: 1 game featuring the current one in the SP, and 2 featuring the version discussed last night with Mr.Nobody's take on "Play To Win".
The first games was D.Va combo (400), Jocasta (180), Red Skull (250), Headpool (60) (890) Vs. Star-Lord (250), Rocket (II) (195), Groot (Baby) (105), Drax (350) (900) Winners: D.Va (Mech and Pilot) unwounded, but having used Nerf This! and Call Mech. Version used:
Spoiler Alert!
D.Va pulled off Nerf This! offensively this game to try and bypass Rocket's and Star-Lord's auto shield. Whilst it did wound them, it didn't kill either. However, because it was the last turn of the round, D.Va was the last figure, and D.Va won the next round, she got back in the mech with no contest. Victory was decided by that last initiative roll. The next two games were D.Va combo (330), White Canary (210), Punisher (180), Captain America (220), Swordsman (160) (1100) Vs. Chuckernaut (400), Colossus (AoA) (315), Scarlet Witch (285), Armor (100) (1100) First game winners: Winners game 1: D.Va Mech (4 wounds), D.Va Pilot, Punisher, White Canary (3 wounds). Second game winners: D.Va Pilot, Swordsman (1 wound), Punisher (1 wound). Version used:
Spoiler Alert!
First game, D.Va did not leave the mech due to the +1 Life. I feel the +1 is very useful alongside Nerf This!, as it allows you to get a bit further into the action to set it up. It's also a nice incentive to bring the two together. Second game, this version of D.Va got to see some action. Mech fell fast because of Colossus using a 3 wounded Scarlet to take out D.Va in one turn. Nerf This! was activated then, destroying Scarlet and Captain America, dealing 2 to Colossus and 1 to Swordsman. She popped out of the mech in an advantageous position, being in range of every enemy left. Swordsman's multi attacks were devastating with Play To Win, D.Va having finished off Colossus, Armor, and Chuck because of the sheer amount of attacks Swordsman had. I think Play To Win could do with a limit or an upped D20 roll, with D.Va getting a small price drop as a result, but this version of the pilot is a lot more engaging and feels useful outside of a quick revive. She brings the mech up to a more accurate bulkiness in my opinion, uses Nerf This! in what is likely the only canon way she'd blow her mech up, and Play To Win lets her poke at enemies and continue to have a use once the mech is expended. She's also a lot less swingy, and whilst Nerf This! can be devastating, it's tricky to pull off since she wants to be near her team to protect them, and diving right into the enemy to try and bait Nerf This! out either leads to the enemy ignoring her, or makes the pilot vulnerable to follow ups. I'd like to go forward with the new version of the pilot listed above, but with a potential change to Play To Win. However, I'm unsure whether it'd be best to increase the roll to, say, 13 or 14, or if it needs something like "Once per figure turn". If we was to make a change her, I'd suggest a point drop, as this only felt ridiculously good alongside Swordsman getting 4-6 attacks a turn and easily failing the rolls against Colossus (AoA), and Chuckernaut. Whilst the revive is accurate to the Overwatch game, I don't believe it's lore accurate, it's driving her cost up, and I can see it becoming unfun when combined with Nerf This!, basically punishing the opponent for attacking her by leaving a bunch of theirs wounded whilst the mech comes back with more Life. And as stated in previous posts, she's seen repairing her mech twice in her animated short after fights as opposed to just having another one like the game would suggest, and in her comic only one is seen being moved, so this would suggest she doesn't actually have multiple mechs, but rather a gameplay mechanic to not render the pilot useless. I might also suggest changing her OM moving to "Instead of taking a turn with D.Va, you may take a turn with her Mech". I don't know if this affects "no additional turns" from any bonding, but it makes any potential bonding with her not as weird, since you could in theory be able to bond with the pilot but not the mech, such as with Avengers Markers, which makes little sense since she's the same person, just in a mech. |

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
Very valid point about Play To Win and Swordplay. I always dislike “arbitrary” once per player turn restrictions, but it may be needed here.

Sounds like you have found a winning formula.

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
I don't think she necessarily needs "once per player turn", perhaps something like this:
Quote:
With this change, I'm thinking maybe 75-85 points to start with and then go from there? Will she need to go through initial testing again? |

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
Seems like version would be a max of one roll per figure turn you took, yes?

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
Exactly that! So in that White Canary build I ran her in before, she'd of only rolled once after Swordsman's turn. But if White Canary, Swordsman, and Captain America each took a turn and swung at someone in her range, she could roll each time after their turns, totalling 3 rolls.

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
Awesome, I have updated the SP with the new design at 85 points for now. Haven't seen any pushback from changing her design so I think we're good.
Where do we go from here? Does she need another round of initial tests, or do we put her straight to public testing? |

Re: The Book of D.Va (Pilot) - Initial Playtesting
Initial playtesting is about making sure the design "feels" right. Public playtesting is about finalizing the cost.
So long as you tried her and she feels right to you, no reason not to move to public testing, IMO. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.
