Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
NAME = BRAINIAC 5
SECRET IDENTITY = QUERL DOX SPECIES = COLUAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = LEGIONNAIRE PERSONALITY = BRILLIANT SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 4 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 3 DEFENSE = 7 POINTS = 210 CHAMPIONS OF THE PAST At the start of the game, you may choose a Unique Champion Hero you control that would begin the game on the battlefield and instead place the figure on this card. At the start of the round, you may place the chosen figure on an empty space adjacent to a figure you control. For the entire game, while that figure has a revealed Order Marker on its card, that figure has the class of Legionnaire in addition to what is listed on its card. CONTINGENCY PLAN While Brainiac 5 is in play, when an Army Card you control has all of its figures destroyed, you may immediately remove any unrevealed Order Markers from that card and place them on any other card you control. Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
Since I don't think I'll be able to get the Tarot stuff done in time for the JL wave, I think I'm going to switch gears a little bit and get these guys out of the way for the Supes wave before doubling back around again.
This draft got a little more exciting since when I initially wrote it up. Lots of cool combos you can now pull of by bringing in a random Champion, but it's kind of cool that adult Clark and Supergirl II come off as optimal options. |

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
Ah, the 5th Brainiac design!
I'd probably move away from the Shield Belt angle, because that's the other Brainiac 5's thing. Champions of the Past is a nice way to bring in other figures to the Legion. I'd probably avoid the initiative win bit - there are games where you just never win initiative, and it would suck to never get to place your champion in those games. |

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
Definitely a cool idea! Love the time travel theme here.
Of course I'll throw out the inevitable Sentry/Superman Bonding concerns, especially since the Legionnaires are pretty solid themselves. But as long as it's thoroughly tested we should be good. |

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
Neat write up. The guys above covered any concerns I might have.
Always fun to see Contingency Plan reused. It's one of my favorite powers we have. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
Ah yeah, was going to mention the Initiative thing too. I don't see the need for it. Placing the guy on the battlefield is fine. If it was a turn bond or anything more, then I could see it. But don't think it's necessary.

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
On the initiative thing, I know there was just some initial concern about power level there. Luckily, Superman is like...the main target of the design, so we don't have to worry about him warping the power level here or anything, since the power should be designed around him. But giving any Champion the fairly robust Legion synergies is a decent get.
Maybe it can cost an OM or something? I feel like there needs to be some sort of "price" but I get what you guys are saying about initiative being too swingy. Shield Belt definitely needs some sort of representation as his main thing, but I could see potentially dropping the power and just giving him a Defense of 7 or so? SW also had a cool power for Booster Gold's Shield Belt (Which, thematically, is lifted from B5's belt) that could be fun here; Quote:

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
Are Legion synergies better than Champion synergies, though?

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
I just think they're different. Legion synergies already start to buckle a little bit when you can get double turns with some combination of Superboy/Mon-El/Ultra Boy, there's a chance they might break completely if you can replace one of those with Sentry. JL was designed from the ground up as a synergy that would have some of the strongest units in the game in it. Legion is probably more comparable to the X-Men, and I think you see a similar effect there where double turns with 350+ point Mutants can be super nasty. The counterpoint is obviously that once you draft Sentry, Brainiac 5, and Cosmic Boy, you might not have many points left for anything else, but that mainly applies to smaller games.
Totally willing to see how it plays out in practice, but I think having some sort of "difficulty" to get the figure on the field is a good safeguard while also being thematically neat. |

Re: The Book of Brainiac 5.2 (In The Lab)
My just drop the force field effect all together and raise his defense and keep him to 2 powers to match the general Legion aesthetic.
