Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
This is just my opinion and I respect everybody's views on the matter, but I'm a card carrying organ donor and proud of it. If I can save somebody's life after I'm dead than why wouldn't I?
I think that example would be pretty rare if it happened at all, but what if the person you saved was evil and after you saved them they were so grateful they turned over a new leaf and did nothing but good. You may even be saving someone who finds the cure for cancer.

Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
A while ago in the UK there was some debate around switching the default option. That is, you would be considered an organ donor unless you explicitly opt out of the system. I thought this was a great idea, but as far as I know it never went anywhere.

Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
I'd be game for that too, since most people don't do it simply because they don't even think about it. It's just as easy to refuse, it's just that you would sign the back of your card to say I don't want to be a donor instead of "I do".
Now through May 28th, the Louisville region is in desperate need of platelets - call the Red Cross if you are interested in donating! |

Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
Unless someone is Jewish or has other religious predispositions, it's a great thing to do. Even if you are religious, perhaps it's the last 'good deed' that you can do.
Unfortunately, with my luck, someone would get my kidney and their dice rolls from that point forward would be all blanks... Anyhow, I have a good friend that is alive today due to an organ donation, so the way I see it, there's no real down side. I'm an organ donor (or rather, will be posthumously) but if my daughters or wife needed something, they could hack it out of me that night. I was famous, once... http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=1715 Visit my site: http://www.superflycircus.com "I'm not cute...I'll mess you up!" ~Jake The Dog |

Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
Yeah, it's just on the back of at least KY driver's license's. I'm not sure if all states do that or what, but the practice is common I know.

This wouldn't work as a fix for the UK though because people don't tend to carry their licences around. Photo licences were only introduced a few years ago and they don't need renewing until you are aged 70 (I got myself a British photo licence for the sole reason of buying booze in the US). |

Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
I want to sign up for organ donation. If I'm dead, I don't be needing my organs.
BTW, is it possible to sign up for organ donation when you get your permit that allows you to drive with a parent? Circumcision? HIS body, HIS decision. A person should have the right to their own body. "Sometimes you're right but you're always an asshole." - Anonymous neg rep Last edited by ParaGoomba Slayer; August 29th, 2009 at 12:17 PM. |

Dude, you got me all wrong! I am not upset that you would donate but the prospect that some one might harvest my organs against my will just ticks me off. Modern Medicine has done wonderfull things for the human race although some ghastly and disturbing practices are being furthered as well. The pregnant man is one that comes to mind. Yes he is very happy but I feel that what he has done to himself is very unnatural and wrong. Where does one draw the line? The Island of Doctor Moreau isn't too far fetched now. |

Re: Thoughts on Organ Donation
Frankenstein* complex much?
I don't see how a transgendered person choosing to try and change his/her gender is related to organ donation. Two completely different things. *I'm not comparing transgendered people to the frankenstein monster. If someone wants to change their gender and it makes them happy, good for them. Quote:
