No arguments from me about how many issues they could cause, just don't see how they would be able to release a significant number of the minis that people think are 'cool' without doing so.

Most of the Giants, Big Dragons and such were part of sets that had 'Huge' figures in them, with those minis being the 'Huge' ones. They take up a 3x3 or 4x4 space on a grid map (can't remember which) so without some base changes, it rules them out.

It's too bad. WOTC put a fair amount of effort into the minis for those big guys.

Which is why, honestly, there's probably no reason to think they will release a significant number of the minis that people think are "cool."
If this is truly a cost cutting measure, I can't see making a new base style and movement rules to go with it being part of the process.

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

If they are to use the Forgotten realms which wave 11 seems to be titled the planet the characters come from is called Toril. I think I spelled that right.

Yeah, more-than-two-hex bases have been discussed quite a bit here, and the verdict seemed to be it wasn't going to work. We've been wanting a War Elephant for Einar for quite a while, but it would be too big. There's no real logical way to have a base that big for something capable of moving. One problem is finding that many hexes that the figure can stop movement on with the same height, and the other is figuring out how the figure moves. Some beginners have a lot of trouble getting two hexers down, I can't imagine the headache a three or four hexer would be.

Well the easy way would really be just to choose a base to "lead" with and then count the number of spaces from that base and to make sure that no part of the base was moved more than the number of spaces allowed from where they began to where they ended. You'd ignore any uneven terrain between and just "place" the bases. Of course that would make going up and down elevation tricky still ... not sure how that part would be handled.
There would definitely have to be a rule about all three bases having to be placed on even terrain, so placement on most maps would be very difficult for the figures.
Yeah, it'd be darn messy. I think it'd be doable, but it'd stretch the game in ways it wasn't really meant to be stretched.

Yeah, I think they could fit--rearing or not, actually. (In fact, this is a point I've made pictorially in the past: http://www.heroscapers.com/community...1&postcount=60.) I see no reason why war elephants couldn't be incorporated on double bases. Sure, they wouldn't be the oliphants of Tolkien lore, but they would be plenty cool!

Bigger? Yes. Too big to fit; no, I don't think so .

As for using extra large DnD figures, that is another story. The Heroscape designers repeatedly demonstrate they are resourceful and smart--able to find incredibly innovative ways to do things that will add to the game.

If they felt that the larger figures were worth the effort, they would make it happen. We'll see if they decide they are worth the effort of incorporating them.

Here's a good thread on the topic of 3+ hex units, btw.

I can't wait to see what they decide to do and how they make it all work. From what Jexik has already shared, it sound like some great innovations are coming.
