Re: WARHAMMER 40k

Okay, because I have about 64 Gaunts that I thought were going to be useless. I can't wait for the new Nid stuff. The plastic Trygon and Tyrant will be epic, and I'm hoping for some more metal-to-plastic-models.

Hey, quick question: How much $$$ have you guys spent on your armys? And how long does it take on average to complete a paint job on one, say, ork?

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

I have about 1750 points, which is about an average army size. (Most games are anywhere from 1000-2000 points.) I've spent around $250, maybe a little more.

Average painting time varies a lot depending on how much detail you put in and what techniques you are using. If your just going for something tabletop quality, you could probably get one done in 20-30 minutes.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

I've spent about $400 on my Chaos Marines, for about 2500 Points of Stuff. I suggest buying boxed sets on ebay to start out- You save a lot of money that way.

For Painting, I can finish a Marine in about 30 Minutes, without throwing on the Web-pattern. Add an extra ten minutes for the Patterns and stuff. For Terminaters and Champions/Lords/Chosen I spend about an hour on each.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

I am sure if I added it all up, my wife would kill me!

I have roughly, in assorted completion stages:

3,000 Nurgle Marines (Lords of Eternal Stench)
2,500 Undivided
2,000 1000 Son's
1,200 Khorne Marines
1,000 Noise Marines
750 Bile w/ Enhanced Marines
1,000 Tzeentch Daemons (Scratched in a Dark Mechanicus kind of way)

2,000 Marines
2,000 Arbites (Scout Army)
3,000 Imperial Guard
1,500 Various Inquisition

3,000 Eldar Corsairs (3 FW flyers)
1,500 CW Eldar
2,000 Dark Eldar (1 FW flyer)

1,000 Necron
1,500 Tau

Currently working on

2,000 Eldar Exodites

My main problem is I keep getting ideas for armies and have a hard time ever actually painting anything.

I admit it, I have a problem.

Bannister

That can only mean one thing. And I don't know what it is.

I'm still just getting started, but I've put together about 2,000 points of Lizardmen for around $100 by carefully shopping ebay for deals. One way to minimize the cost is to buy older style models; for example, I have 2 Stegadons but they are the older metal model rather than the newer plastic. Your options may be more limited (for example I can't build an Engine of the Gods), but the older models are (usually) still legal and you can find them a lot cheaper.

For painting, it all depends on how much detail you add. For core units, you can paint them in batches and save a lot of time. A base coat, a darker wash, and some simple drybrushing and you can paint an entire unit (10-20 models) in a couple of hours and they will look fine for playing. Save the intricate details for your heros and special units and you can paint an army in no time.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

What army do you play Mooseman? I play Warhammer Fantasy(WhF), and my 2,500 point orc army has cost me around more or less $600, including gifts.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

I play Tyranids. I have noticed that its pretty hard to compare Fantasy and 40k point costs. A 2500 points fantasy army is going to be a lot different from a 2500 40k army.

How complex is 40k? WHF has a lot of rules to remeber.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

About the same I would imagine, maybe a little less. The games are pretty similar, they use the same basic structure. I don't imagine learning the 40k rules would be that hard if you know fantasy.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

The problem I have with painting is that I always find something on my 'finished' models that needs repainted, which is a real pain.

Re: WARHAMMER 40k

Fellow Nid players: I present this BoLS article.

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2009/...d-tidings.html

Sorry, I couldn't embed it as Im on my itouch ATM and can't access my computer.

And the best part: Ravenors (plastic) are 3 models per sprue. @ $29
Gargoyles (plastic) are 10 per box, and armed with fleshborers as the only weapons. @$44

Raveners are no longer $60 for three. A squad of Gargoyles is no longer $75. And they are now plastic. Yes! And there supposedly is a Platic Tyrant. With wings. Only problem with it is I heard about it after I converted one...
