Site slowness and Database Errors

Has anyone else noticed that from time to time this site slows down noticeably? I'm talking slowing to a crawl. As in clicking on a thread to read the new posts and it takes a long time to load. (A long time can be as long as going to another site, checking any unread threads, coming back here and it still hasn't loaded!)

Of course, there are the times when doing that results in a database error, which knocks the entire site down for several minutes or more.

Please reply here if you've had anything like that happen. We (the admins) don't have enough data to tell if there is any pattern to it or not. (Though Sunspots or Russian Meteors would be a cool explanation, I don't think that would be the real cause...)

I've been having this a lot more regularly recently, indeed.

During the recent CoN, I've been updating regularly checking on things. Sometimes the huge OOC thread loads in just a second. Sometimes it takes like a minute to go through each page.

I also have gotten about 5 database errors in the past week plus or so, which seemed unusual.

So yeah, I've been having just the problems you're describing, although they're not that big of a deal, just slightly annoying.

Sometimes this happens to me a lot, sometimes it doesn't. The slow-loading is pretty normal, but the database error has only happened to me once or twice in the last week or so.

The slow loading doesn't happen much for me, however, the data base error occurs quite frequently.

EDIT: "frequently" meaning like, twice a week.

Same here, usually if I just shut my Laptop and come back in 20 mins it's working again.....

Same as caps for me. Except, usually my entire internet will do it as well. I haven't had a database error in a long time, though. So moreso it just may be my laptop in my case.

Early last week - I think Tuesday or Wednesday - I had about 3 database errors. I have noticed the site seems to load a little slower at times, but not terribly so.

Thanks all for the reports so far. There is no obvious rhyme or reason to the slowness, so we're trying to figure out if there is either a) a predictable pattern, or b) some sort of "triggering event."

In that vein, if you have specific dates/times of really bad sluggishness on the site, that would be helpful! There is some automated software we can put in place monitoring things in that regard, but nothing beats a good first-hand report.

Earlier this week I had a database error when browsing on my psp. I think it was Monday night although I'm not sure. It went away after a few minutes. As for site slowness it seems to be the same for me, so I haven't noticed anything.

The site was crawling for me just five minutes ago.
