Situation on the weekend - Special Attacks vs Engaged
So, according to Hasbro's FAQ, we have this:
Q: An engaged figure must attack the figure it's engaged with, but can that figure use a special attack in close combat? A: Yes. Q: Can I use a special power on a ranged figure when I'm engaged to another figure? A: Special powers can affect non-engaged figures when you are engaged to another figure. However, you can only use attacks (normal/special) that affect the figure(s) you are engaged to first. So that means, if a figure targets multiple figures with a special attack (for example, Niflheim), it must target the adjacent figure first, and non-adjacent figures afterwords, correct? Niflheim, specifically, says that you may attack 2 additional times on different figures. What if he was engaged with 1 figure, and failed to kill it (2 attacks remaing). According to the above logic, you must use your special attack on figures you're engaged to first, but you can't, because Niflheim can only attack a figure one time. This, also, gets around that rule, and Niflheim can then attack figures that are not engaged, as long as all engaged figures had previously been targeted, correct? The alternative is that Niflheim attacks the first and only engaged figure first, fails, and must forfeit the rest of his special attacks due to a logic flaw existing between Niflheim and the above statement from the FAQ. What if, hypothetically, you had a Special Attack that targeted up to 3 figures simultaneously. Does this wording get around the above rule, or could you only target the figures that are engaged? Remember, you can't target figures that aren't engaged while other figures are engaged. How would this work out? Also, Deadeye Dan is an exception to this logic, because his card specifies that he must target a non-adjacent figure, and the "you can only use attacks on the engaged figure first" rule wouldn't apply, correct? |

For Nilfheim, if he fails to destroyed engaged figures, he doesn't get the additonal attacks.
DED's Ullar Enhanced Rifle SA cannot be used if he is engaged. Sharpshooter can be as long as he doesn't target an adjacent figure. Kumiko is not impressed with your sculpt, either.

Special Attacks are subject to the engaged rule. If Nilf did not kill all the figures he is engaged with, he forfeits any extra attacks available to him.
Special Power (abilities that are not listed as Attacks) are not subject to the engaged rule. DED can use his power his Sharpshooter ability against another non-engaged figure even if engaged. He cannot use his Ullar Enhanced Rifle if he is engaged. One way to determine the difference is if the power rolls attack dice then it is considered a Special Attack. If you roll the D20 (or some other random element), then it is a Special Power but not considered a Special Attack. Newb. |
