Are we adding Geniuses here just because they could use some synergy or because it's appropriate for Grodd? Seems like the first here which anytime I suggest anything that's not a 100% lock I have to defend it.

This went form Antagonist, Psychopath, or Rogue, to Antagonist and Rogues to ... just Geniuses. A class that honestly I could never see Grodd working with since he's usually trying to be the smartest thing there.

This is what I could find for Injustice groups Grodd actually led (which seems like the thematic basis for his recruiting people):

While never directly referred to as such in Justice League Unlimited, with only the DVD box set for the third season explicitly doing so,[24] the Legion of Doom served as inspiration for the Secret Society, which is originally led by Gorilla Grodd before Lex Luthor takes over and also includes Bizarro, Devil Ray, the Cheetah, Giganta, Sinestro, and Toyman among their ranks.

The first version appears in a self-titled two-part episode of Justice League, consisting of Gorilla Grodd, Giganta, Killer Frost, Sinestro, Parasite, Shade, and Clayface. Grodd takes measures to encourage the group to be more cohesive

In the third season of Justice League Unlimited, Grodd rebuilds and expands the Secret Society to combat the expanded Justice League by recruiting Luthor, most of his original Society save for Clayface, Angle Man, Atomic Skull, Bizarro, Blockbuster, Bloodsport, the Cheetah, Copperhead, the Cadre, Devil Ray, Doctor Cyber, Doctor Destiny, Doctor Polaris, Doctor Spectro, Dummy, Electrocutioner, Evil Star, Gentleman Ghost, Goldface, Heat Wave, Hellgrammite, Javelin, Key, KGBeast, Lady Lunar, Livewire, Major Disaster, Merlyn, Metallo, Mirror Master, Monocle, Neutron, Psycho-Pirate, Puzzler, Puppeteer, Queen Bee, Rampage, Shark, Silver Banshee, Sonar, Sportsmaster, Star Sapphire, Tala, Tattooed Man, the Thinker, the Top, Toyman, Tsukuri, Volcana, and Weather Wizard.

An alternate reality version of the "Society" appears in Injustice 2, led by Gorilla Grodd and consisting of Bane, Poison Ivy, the Scarecrow, Deadshot, the Cheetah, Captain Cold, and the Reverse-Flash. Additionally, Catwoman works as a double agent within their ranks on behalf of Batman's Insurgency.

Notably, all of these instances are on television or video games. As far as I can tell, he's always just a member of groups in the comics, not a leader. In these examples, I can't really discern any "type" he has. Maybe a slight lean towards Bat villains and Wonder Woman villains?

some of those will have the IJL tag especially that first group. There are also a lot of Rogues in that list.

Cap Cold, Heatwave, Top, Mirror Master, weather Wizard, etc.

Also see a lot of Mercenaries in there oddly.

Sounds like some combination of Rogue, Assassin, or Mercenary would be the best options with those lists. Any preference?

Seems like Rogue keeps him (and his builds) closest to 1.0 and that japes cares more than anyone else, so I'd probably go that route.
