Haha sorry, I don’t wanna sound like I’m shooting myself in the foot. More than anything it is the Ravagers that are frustrating with their inconsistent “bonding”. He actually is quite fun to use, but it’s sometimes hard to experience that with a squad as high risk as the Ravagers.

Truth is, I wanted to price him down around 60-70points, but I knew y’all wouldn’t have it for an 8life healing and bonding hero. That, and he’s proven that his greatest position is soaking damage for the Ravagers. It’s difficult because he’s so dependent on their output, but he HAS been able to produce that many points, just not on average.

It was late last night when I posted and I was quite tired, so don’t let my downy mood at the time dissuade you about Rujin. He’s a tight design, and well prepared...I was just trying to make sure to disclose all information regarding his performance so there were no surprises. If he were accepted at 60-70pts...I would prefer changing him there just because I feel playtesting put him there more often then not, even though he did hit over 100pts a couple times at his best. BUT again, his role has never really been an offensive one which has made it somewhat hard to price because he spends his turns mainly soaking damage from opponents.

Is Rujin too small for a peanut base @Sir Heroscape ? I don’t own the mini, but I always figured it would fill out a peanut just fine.

My customs.
NE Ohio Tourney - TBA
SW Ohio Tourney - NHSD 550 points

His model isn’t suited for a peanut base. He overhangs a bit on a large single base...and fits perfectly on a large DnD Heroscape base (Master of the Hunt size)

Re: Soldiers of Valhalla - nominations and discussion

Talk me through the Valhalla trolls. I can tell he has a different look than the D&D trolls, and from the Feylund trolls. I know that trolls from Valhalla are mentioned in the lore. It just seems odd to me that he has the signature power of the D&D trolls (Regenerate) even though he's not one.

I guess I never really separated the two, lumping all trolls into one category ...but I guess you’re right that there is a distinct difference. The thematic, “lore” aspect of this design was more centered on the swamp creature mentioned in the compendium. I thought the miniature fit well and decided troll was the best race (since there’s really no other race he’d fit into)

EDIT: I guess you could make an argument for Ogre

Actually what you have on the card is correct.

It's hard not to see this guy as a better buy than the Feral Troll with +1 base attack, at least as good regeneration, and bonding potential for only 10pts more. And that's without any swamp. Though without Blood Frenzy, the key that makes Feral Trolls valuable (at least as dungeon baddies), maybe it's fair, and I may be ok with him always being a better pick on his own terrain.

Nice simple rework of Regenerate, and nice reuse of Lurking Ambush. Seems strong for the points on a swamp map, but your write-up is convincing.

He is very Troll. Just a question of which flavor.

My 2c. He's a fine-looking nominee, Sir H. Clean power set, thematic. I'm looking forward to the responses from the judges.

Interesting. My take is that Sir Heroscape's instincts were more correct in the neighborhood of 70 points.

Ignoring the Durgeth for a moment, imagine this guy going one-on-one with any other hero in its point range on a swamp map. Sure, he has practically no Defense, but regenerating 2 wounds a turn is a lot to overcome. Outside of that, if it's relatively easy to get the double-regenerate, he can afford to take some leaving engagement attacks to get the Lurking Ambush bonus.

Seems like he could be beastly. But it's all theoryscape, and not as good as it appears according to SH's write-up.

The Feral Troll comparison still stands regardless.

I don't buy it; Rujin is inferior to the Feral Troll against all-hero armies (where he is designed to be used as a dungeon crawl monster) and comparable to the Feral Troll in other circumstances.
