Re: BattleLore Discussion
There are two issues with the Troll and Country set.
1. The map is preprinted with all the terrain. (not as big of a deal to me but some people did not like it). 2. The Troll's card is printed on the map. You don't get an individual card with the Troll. This was a big stinker for a lot of people since you had to make your own copy of the Troll card to use on other maps unless you wanted to have the T&C map out for reference. Other than that, it's not a bad expansion even if it is somewhat expensive for what you get. I do agree with SlikkRikk about the Epic set. Having the option to play bigger battles and the extra map is a big plus. Newb. Last edited by LilNewbie; March 23rd, 2009 at 04:26 PM. |

Re: BattleLore Discussion
The card thing definitely annoyed me, but knowing FFG, there's a good chance they'll make a card available in the future. Other than that, I liked For Troll And Country. Having the terrain printed on there greatly reduces setup time if you just want to play a quick Epic game.

Re: BattleLore Discussion
There seems to be a lot of 'issues' with Battlelore - apparently one of the Goblin expansions has some mistakes. I'll need to check mine when they arrive.
I'll probably make my own troll as I don't want to invest in Epic no matter how cool it is. Epic BL requires two base sets, correct? Quote:
~ For bedtime reading, I've been revisiting and brushing up on the rules. My son and I will be playing this game again. Hopefully this weekend. Last edited by Hex_Enduction_Hour; March 24th, 2009 at 01:38 PM. |

The Troll comes in a separate set and I want him, but I'm really hoping that FFG does something to change the For Troll and Country set as DoW got a lot of bad comments about it. My Recent Plays: |

Re: BattleLore Discussion
Hmmm. I'll have to reverify but my Goblin Skirmishers had the correct number of flags, iirc. Thanks for information, SlikkRikk.

Even if nary another expansion is released, there is plenty to enjoy. But, I still hold the opinion that Heroes will open up the 'RPG' aspects of the game hinted at during the ramp up and release of the game a couple years ago. Heroes, Campaigns, Nations/Factions/Races - plenty for which FFG to work with. When and how seem to be the questions, not if. If having to purchase another base game is your only hold back to playing Epic, don't let that give you a second thought is my advice. Quote:

Re: BattleLore Discussion
Hey gang,
Battlelore is still alive and kicking but like when HS transferred to WotC, when BL transferred to FFG it's taking a bit for them to get 'up to speed' on the releases. Still, they are coming, and here's a note from the designer, Richard Borg himself, on just that. http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/ed...=1&efidt=66779 Regarding getting the Troll card, FFG has the card for download here provided you have a login for their forums. http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ed...eidm=15&esem=4 Finally, I don't think that the figs for the large creatures look all that great, so I made my own and just printed up the cards and pasted them to some nice cardstock. Also, Universal Head's typically WONDERFUL quick-play guide for Battlelore covers the stats for the first 3 large creatures, so you could always use that instead of printing up the cards. Go here: http://www.headlesshollow.com/freebies_games.html Here's my custom BL Troll, Giant, and Earth Elemental (partially primed, unpainted). Re: BattleLore Discussion
It's a nice thick stock. Definitely not on the same level as the regular board...but it folds up nicely, and as long as you're not throwing it around the room, it should hold up just fine.

Re: BattleLore Discussion
I'm most excited about the Heroes expansion than I have been for anything in a long time. I think the last time I was this excited about something announced-not-released-yet in gaming was the release of the SotM set.

I appreciate the way DoW rolled out the game, but to me this is the way to go (and the way I would've liked to see it go ): Base Game - pretty much as is Call to Arms/Epic - single expansion as opposed to being broke into two (built into the base game would've been wonderful, but I understand how this might have been daunting to some customers, both in perceived complexity and price point) Initial Heroes Expansion - would introduce RPG and Campaign elements to the game, introduce the basic ways in which on board Heroes would impact the game (again, could have been built into the base game, but that box would be getting ridiculously large and all the more daunting ) Then start releasing factions, complete armies including deployment decks - making future specialists available in blister pack-type releases, or also making units available in smaller quantities for those that want to further customize armies would be nice but not necessary. The first to be released would've been similar to the Dwarven, Goblin, and Human expansions that were released, save being bundled together by faction into single expansions and including the deployment decks. Future factions would be released with a larger "base" army and then a few specialists included as well. And more Heroes/Creatures/Campaigns as the game rolls on... As far as Historical vs. Fantastical, I like how DoW addressed both using the same materials, but do understand that it would offend the cosmetic sensibilities of some (many? most?). I like the economy of having dwarven spear bearers represent Scottish Schiltrons and, well, dwarven spear bearers depending upon the setting. But, I also recognize that the potential for offending more than just the aesthetical exist. I don't think a separate deck is needed for fantasy vs. historical, but making separate miniatures available would be nice, though likely not very cost effective. O, and web-released adventures should be pumped out regularly - possibly collected into books to be sold as well.
