Spammer-thread-rant (& Spam-Hunter! Comment Thread)

They're all good. Django also enjoys this sport. It's something we call "Spam Hunting", and it's the good times. A true test of reflexes, where you hunt the most dangerous prey of all.

We tried implementing a "you must click this link in your email" process for a while to keep down the spammers, but a number of legitimate looking sign ups were not activating, we think because of (ironically) the email getting bounced by their spam filters.

So we mostly just delete them as they sign up and catch the threads. Usually we catch them before they post anything. There are about 6 spammer accounts created and deleted daily.

Exactly. Unfortunately, there's no way of keeping score, but it's a heck of a good time if you can catch it. You gotta be quick, though!

Now that I think about it, the "you need 20 posts" idea is bad. Then they would just go and ruin a totally legitmate thread. Oh, well. I guess this is the best it will get. I must be happy with it... Or join the race.

Spam hunting is fun, but the ultimate trophy is when you post the entire Monty P ython Spam Sketch instead of one puny little smilie icon

I like the race thing. I've dubbed many of them in my time already I'd love to start keeping stats. Perhaps we could use this thread to report our conquests and as a reference point for the admins.

Any admin care to sticky this thread for quick reference for the Spam-Hunters?
