Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Just ordered my nickstarter. Box of snakemen. Also got lost colossus supplement book. Threw in the frostgrave ulterior motives( its on sale). Pretty sure ill get some extras from the nickstarter. Also with that combined with lost colossus should get me a sprue of regular crewman and a crewsheet. Pretty excited. All that with shipping only ran me about 41 bucks. Pretty sweet huh. @Hahma . I think they are throwing in a cortiki demon and a swamp zombie.

I may have to look into that Trex. I have been off the Frostgrave kick for a little while, since that one solo game I tried a bit ago. Sadly, I haven't even gotten to try Ghost Archipelago yet or even finished my crew/creatures. With my one daughter not being interested in Frostgrave or any other game any longer, and my buddy Chris being super busy with work and going back to school, I've kind of lost some Frostgrave gaming partners. I've played it a couple times at some all day events with my group in the past, but those have been kind of on hold for a good part of the winter because we meet at an indoor soccer facility and they have been super crowded on Saturdays in the winter, so no Saturday all days for us. But we are having our first of the year there on the 31st of March, though I can only be there for a little while, as I have to help clean and get ready for Easter the next day, which we always host.

Oh yeah, I had also been really busy with The Walking Dead All Out War stuff, so that took away some Ghost Archipelago hobby time.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

I finished The Heavy Pounders team and their superstar Ronnie Salvage today for Rumbleslam. So basically each team and the superstar booster for each team took me a week, as I had won the game two weeks ago today. Not too shabby. The superstars don't even have to be on the respective teams I am assigning them to, but each one belongs to the same casino/faction as those teams, so there is a bonus you can choose if all the wrestlers you field are from the same casino. Actually, you can mix and match any of the wrestlers, as long as the total point cost is in the agreed upon limit. There are a lot of teams and a lot of superstars, and 5 or 6 casinos. So lots of variety, but for now, I'll stick with the free stuff I got and try to get that played at our March 31st all day event. I won't be there for the usual 8 to 10 hours, but maybe 4 or 6. I've already gotten a request to play Rumblelam that day, so that should be very doable, as it takes nothing to set up with a little mousepad ring. Nice to have a minis game (other than Guild Ball) that doesn't take a huge table and lots of terrain to haul around and setup.

This looks like a fun game with an easy set up indeed. Those models are pretty fun looking to paint as well. I'm going to start posting my paint jobs soon enough.

Look forward to seeing them.

I'm going to play a solo learning game of Rumbleslam this morning to learn to play before trying to teach others. The small footprint of the game is a positive for sure. TT Combat, the manufacturers of this game also have MDF rings you can make that are 3D, with the ring about an inch off the ground and with ropes and turnbuckles. I've also seen people on the Rumbleslam FB page making their own. Seems like it would be doable with pink foamboard with 1 inch squares etched into it.

Re: Frostgrave, Halo Ground Command and other tabletop minis

Thanks @Tornado !

Had a little time this morning to start learning Rumbleslam. It's not that hard, though there are plenty of special abilities and situational rules. But it pretty much feels like wrestling, as there are grappling moves, jumping off the turnbuckle attacks, using the ropes to propel the wrestlers forward without using their move allowance and also being able to use special rope attacks. There is lifting of other wrestlers, where friendlies can be thrown at opponents, and opponents can be thrown out of the ring, which is part of the goal of the game. An opponent wrestler that is still conscious can try to avoid being picked up or thrown, but if they are knocked out, they are easier to lift and throw. A lot has to do with the weight of the wrestler too, as there is weight 1, 2 and 3. Lots of neat things to make wrestlers play different.

The game plays 5 rounds. If there are ever only models from 1 team in the ring, they win. Otherwise, at the end of 5 rounds, the player with the most points worth of wrestlers still in the ring wins. Wrestlers still in the ring but knocked out, are only worth half their points. Once a wrestler is thrown out of the ring, it is out of the game.

In the sequence pictured, the Goblin Grappler first attempted his Crowd Cheer ability to get his throw up to 4 spaces instead of 2. He succeeded and then moved 4 of his 5 movement allowance to get into base contact with the Halfling Grappler that had been knocked out by the Troll. Being knocked out, made it easier for the Goblin to lift him, though he still had to roll his 2 copper grapple dice and not roll blanks on both, as the Halfling's defense and grapple were both reduced to 0, but a lift attempt of 0 on the dice would have been a fail. The Goblin succeeded in lifting the weight 1 Halfling, which put him on the Goblin's cars, and then threw the Halfling out of the ring.

Cool.

I tinkered with wrestling rules for my RPG. It was setting up like a flowchart where each successful move opened up options for additional moves.

Good stuff.

That sounds neat. For this game, the wrestlers have AP (action points) to spend on their turn, base is 3 to 5 depending in wrestler. But the number can be modified up or down based on certain affects. Basic attacks only cost 1 AP, but their special moves will have various costs. It also cost 1AP to climb onto a turnbuckle, or use the ropes to fling 5 spaces, or pick up another wrestler etc.

Also, when you are rolling for an ability or attack, the defender rolls defense or grapple. Whoever rolls more successes, wins. But if the attacker rolls 4 or more successes higher than the defender, then there's a chart called the Beat Down, for what extra effects happen for 4, 5, 6, 7 etc more successes. Conversely, of the defender rolls 4 or more successes than the attacker, then you check the Reversal chart to see what happens in the defender's favor.

There are also 3 different dice to roll for those things, copper, silver and gold. So the different wrestlers have differ dice combinations for different stats and abilities.
