Preamble: Tom and Juggs join the Thunderbolts and take on the Fantastic Four!

Round 1: Tom picks Juggs, Songbird picks Juggs. Crime FIghter initiative. Tom/Juggy move. Reed and Sue move. Tom misses Reed, Juggs moves. Torch misses Juggs, Reed moves. Tom misses a normal attack on Sue, Juggs deals 3 to Sue with normal. Torch moves and disengages with both safely, and both receive 2 wounds. He then hits Juggs for 1 more. Sue misses, barely. Reed moves up the ladder.

Round 2: FFi. Torch dodges lea and deals 2 to both again. He deals 1 more to Juggs. Thing misses Juggs. Reed misses. Tom misses Thing with his special. Juggernaut deals 5 wounds to Thing. Torch takes 2 leas. He finishes Juggernaut and Tom. FF reposition for two rounds and Torch blasts Luke for 1.

Round 3: FFi. Torch Flames 2 wounds on Luke, then 1 wound, Reed moves adjacent and misses. Firestar deals 1 to Torch and Cage deals 1 to Reed. Reed finishes Luke. om2 gone. Sue and Reed miss Firestar. Om3 gone.

Round 4: CFi. Songbird misses Sue, Firestar misses Torch.Sue moves and misses Songbird. Songbird moves and misses. Firestar’s SA does nothing. Thing takes out Firestar (and a Skrull pops up), Sue moves and misses, Reed deals 2 to Songbird. Om3 gone. Thing removes Songbird. Reed squishes the Skrull.

Notes: Black Tom didn’t do a whole lot here other than the turn bonding, which unfortunately wasn’t great since his 4 normal and 4 SA just weren’t busting through the FF and Invisible Woman got away. Juggernaut got his points in at least during those turns, so that’s something, but he didn’t get a chance to work with Luke or Songbird. Torch burned through the pair pretty fast. The FF took some hits all around, but none went down.

Round 1: Clock King helps with initiative and Six go first. Om1 on Juggs, Tom and Juggs move. Jean and Cyclops move. Firefly and Wizard move, Wizard misses a tree. Jean throws, 1 wounds with throw, and 1 wounds Firefly. Wolverine moves after Firefly was thrown. Wolverine moves adjacent and deals 1 wound to FIrefly. OCK and Clock move. Tom targets Firefly for the Blast and rolls two skulls. Firefly dodges, Wolverine blocks, Jean takes 2 wounds, a tree is safe. Jean fails a toss, but overkills Firefly with five skulls. Angel moves Xavier up and misses a tre.

Round 2: Clock initiative. Tom blasts a tree adjacent to Jean, Wolverine, Angel, and one space away from Xavier, but Xavier Xs out the attack. Jean rolls five skulls and loses 4 life. Wolverine rolls 4 skulls and Tom is no more. Juggernaut moves down the road, and charges Xavier. He deals 3 wounds. Wizard moves and takes out Xavier from range, then Angel moves himself and Wolvie out of range. He hits a tree which hits Jean for 1. Wolvie misses Juggy. Ock and Clock move. Juggs misses Wolvie. Juggs blocks Wolvie.

Round 3: Clock initiative. Juggs deals 2 to Wolvie. Angel moves Jean. Cyclops moves up. Jean moves Ock, but misses the throw wound and the attack. Wizard’s move is stopped, but he removes Jean (Angel flies away) and misses Wolvie (Angel moves). Ock climbs up. Cyke moves Iceman, before dealing 3 to Jugg. Clock moves up. Juggs deals 3 to Wolverine. Wizard deals 2 to Angel. Angel flies Wolvie away. Wizard deals 1 to Iceman. Angel moves Iceman up. Cyke hits Clock King for 1 wound.

Notes: Tom went down again early, but he got to used his boosted special so that was neat, unfortunately it was blocked by Xavier the second time, but just him making Juggernaut a Criminal alone this game was worth it, since that extra attack die really helped Juggernaut deal some damage (running at 7 dice means he basically doesn’t even need to charge). I was hoping these two getting the first om and then using Ock for the second and third would get even more turns in, but it just went to full Ock again pretty quick. The Ock/Wizard move combo really got Tom and Juggs in the action quick and they were able to dole out some damage.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
Partners In Crime is the draw, but didn’t see a whole lot of use before one or both of them got taken out, still it’s a strong enough early game start and I feel he got some bad matchups against wounders like Torch and Jean Grey.
Rough And Tumble didn’t see any use because of the powers of those mentioned above and he just wasn’t in the way of any special attacks. I’d like to see it come into play at some point.
Thermokinetic Blast did some damage the second game and would’ve done more if not for bloody Charles! The first game FF were just too packed on Defense.
5 Life, 4 Defense is a nice spot for him, there were two points where having 5 instead of 4 life saved him so I definitely wouldn’t lower it.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: I like the class crossover options he opens up, and whether it be Criminal, Outcast, Pirate, Horseman, or whatever none of it feels out of place. I think he played for points the second game and got hammered the first. Overall he’s probably at cost or just over it, in which case we could bump him in some minor way. I’d like to see more tests and see if anyone can cause any more mayhem with this guy.

TOYHANDLE’S THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT:
Tom Cassidy Is one of those fun designs that makes brand new teams possible. Hard to think of all the possibilities he opens up. We tested Juggernaut with the Thunderbolts and as a member of Sinister Six. I’m sure there’s some crazy Outcast/Criminal combinations you can use with Black Tom and Magneto (II).
Game 1, he didn’t have any trees/bush to boost his special attack, and the FF didn’t have any special attacks to use on him. He charged out pretty early with Juggernaut and stood a little too close to Juggy, allowing Torch a couple double flame-ons, which ended him and Juggernaut pretty early.
Game 2, he again charged out early, and went down fast. Although I would have liked to see him play, he really put my team in a bad spot, and I couldn’t risk having him around. He was giving the Sinister Six a whole extra turn per round, and there were trees/bush everywhere for him to stand next to, and my closely bunched up mutants were basically always surrounding a tree/bush that could be targeted for his special. He would have done well against the variety of special attacks the Mutants have, but luckily Jean/Wolverine took him down fast.

His stats aren’t too crazy, and costing will probably come down to figuring out if there’s some insane draft that makes his class change way more valuable than 160. Feels pretty where he’s at so far.

edit: Tom's special targeted a tree, and affected Jean, Wolverine, Angel, and put all of them + Xavier at risk of a falling tree. This made me X out the attack, even though it was only 2 or 3 skulls. Didn't want to risk all those wounds, and didn't want Juggernaut to take a turn. This allowed Juggernaut to take a turn on Ock's OM reveal, and go right for a vulnerable Xavier, which is probably where I lost the game. Might have been better off just defending against the special.

Quick note after last night.
Looking good so far, I'm thinking it'd be good to see him run with the Outcasts and maybe a game pulling Blob into some Criminal pools for anyone thinking of testing next.

Black Tom and Blob advance.
Cap advances and wounds a tree and Blob with his shield (Blob takes two wounds). Winter Soldier takes height and he fails to hit Blob from height, with Cap’s boost.
Grim Reaper has Blob advance and hit Winter Soldier for two wounds. Winter Soldier doesn’t have his own back. Grim Reaper advances and puts a wound on a Greater Evergreen.
Falcon advances and can’t hit Blob with a double attack.
Grim Reaper has Black Tom engage Cap to protect Blob from Cap’s Shield. Black Tom punches up and Cap and Cap whiffs and takes a wound. Grim Reaper fails a ranged attack on Winter Soldier.

Unit Summary: Consistently getting initiative and securing height early really helped the Avengers in this one. Black Tom didn’t do much on offense here, but he paired well with Blob defensively and the slowed down the Avengers enough to keep Grim Reaper clean and let him and Doctor Octopus clean up.

Magneto and Black Tom are Criminals. Wizard lets them and the Duploids move an extra space. Duploids and move up with Magneto and Jubilee/Black Tom so long as Magneto gives up his attack. Destiny will boost Magneto’s throws. Oracle is there for Contingency Plan. She fights for the “X” with Wizard and Destiny, but seems worth a try, if it’s a bit messy as a build.
Round 1: Initiative Criminal Outcasts. Duploids, Magneto, and Jubilee advance.
Angel carries Professor X to height. Cyclops blasts Magneto from height for two wounds.
Duploids advance and position strategically. One engages Prof X and attacks but is blocked. Magneto flies to the center of the fountain. Jubilee advances and rolls 3 skulls on her special attack against Prof X and he burns the “X” to stop it.
Jean Grey advances, throws and hurts Magneto, then blasts him to finish him off. Cyclops advances and can’t hit a Duploid.
Black Tom gets the Order Marker 3 from Magneto thanks to Oracle and the Duploids advance and fail an attack on Prof X, leading Angel to carry him away, then the Duploids hit Cyclops for a wound. Black Tom advances. Jubilee fails a special attack on Professor X.
Jean throws but can’t wound a Duploid, even with her attack. Cyclops blasts a Duploid and Jubilee, but only puts one wound on Jubilee.

Round 2: Initiative X-Men. Jean throws but can’t wound a Duploid, but then KO’s it with her attack. Cyclops tries an optic blast, but hits nothing.
Black Tom tries and fails to hit a crowd with his special attack. Jubilee hits Professor X for a wound with hers.
Jean throws but can’t wound a Duploid, then fails to hit Black Tom with her attack. Cyclops blasts the Duploids, destroying one, then bringing it back when another splits, and putting two wounds on Jubilee.
Duploids follow the Secret Attack Plan and hit Jean for a wound. Jubilee fails to hit Jean.
Jean throws and destroys one Duploid and chooses not to attack the remaining one. Cyclops can’t hit anything with his Optic Blast.
Black Tom engages Jean but can’t hit her. Jubilee hits Cyclops for two wounds.

Round 3: Initiative X-Men. Angel moves Prof X to the middle of the fountain. Angel whiffs an attack on Jubilee. Jean fails to throw the last Duploid, but hits Black Tom for three wounds.
Black Tom follows the Secret Attack Plan and punches Jean for a wound. Jubilee attacks Cyclops, but Prof X saves him.
Jean and Cyclops fail to do anything.
Black Tom sets Jean on fire and she falls down, out of the game. Jubilee lights up Cyclops and he’s gone too.
Angel fails an attack on Jubilee and Beast advances.
Black Tom hits Prof X for a wound and Jubilee hits Angel for a wound.

Round 4: Initiative Criminal Outcasts. Black Tom forces an “X” reveal from Professor X.
Beast KO’s Jubilee, but can’t hit Black Tom.
Black Tom takes a swipe, then uses his special attack and ends the round for the X-Men by KOing Professor X.
Black Tom follows the Secret Attack Plan and puts a wound on Beast from height.

Round 5: Initiative Criminal Outcasts. Black Tom uses his special attack and KO’s Angel, puts a wound on Beast, then destroys an Evergreen Tree to put another wound on Beast. Ouch.
Beast KO’s Black Tom. Oracle moves his Order Markers to Destiny.
Destiny follows the Secret Attack Plan and attacks Beast from range, but he blocks.
Beast collapses an Evergreen Tree onto Destiny, then punches her for two more wounds.
Destiny avoids a swipe, then hits Beast for a wound from range and height.
Iceman advances.
Round 6: Initiative Criminal Outcasts. Oracle engages Beast but the Secret Attack Plan can’t land her the KO.
Beast negotiates OM2 off of Oracle then leaps away and puts three quick wounds on Wizard.
Beast KO’s poor Wizard, who had OM3.
Iceman advances and puts the fourth wound on Destiny.

Round 7: Initiative Criminal Outcasts. Oracle follows the Secret Attack Plan and just finishes Beast.

Iceman one-shots Oracle, ending her round.
Iceman blasts Destiny for a fifth wound.

Round 8: Initiative Criminal Outcasts. Destiny can’t hit Iceman from range and height.

Unit Summary: Magneto fell way too fast and I expected the Criminal Outcast army to fall apart, but it hung tough. The Duploids were tough to kill and height and solid rolls kept Jubilee and Black Tom in the game. Their range and special attacks were nice counters to the defense of the X-Men. A slight Order Marker strategy botch in Round 6, as well as Oracle’s failure to finish off Beast fast enough, swung things back in the X-Men’s direction. End game dragged out a bit, but this felt like anyone’s game throughout.

UNIT SUMMARY: Seems he’s probably better in Criminal builds than Outcast builds, since he has no D20 and Criminals have better turn bonding. His cost feels good as is.

Black Tom Cassidy makes himself and Demona Criminals.

ROUND 1 : Criminal initiative.
Both teams start moving to center. Cyclops takes a shot at a Duploid that misses. Two Duploids rush Beast and deal 1 wound. Cyclops shoots a Duploid, but it regenerates after the next Duploids defense roll.

ROUND 2 : Mutant initiative.
Both teams are pretty solid defensively, so only a few wounds go out this round to Demona, Beast, and Havok. Beast is in the criminal backrow and has Black Tom/Multiplex engaged, while the Duploids and Demona are fighting Cyclops and Havok.

ROUND 3 : Mutant initiative.
Cyclops takes a LEA, and fires an Optic Destruction that hits Demona, all 3 Duploids, and Havok. He deals 3 wounds to Demona and kills 2 Duploids. Beast Negotiates the X OM off of Multiplex. Havok takes a LEA, and gets off a Plasma Burst that kills Demona and the last Duploid. The mutants just go crazy the rest of this round, killing Multiplex and leaving Black Tom with one life.

Post-Game Thoughts : Pretty easy win for the mutants. The Criminals had pretty poor rolls throughout the game, and couldn’t stack on much damage. I think I invested a bit too much in the defensive side of things with Demona, Multiplex, and Duploids. None of those units have a ton of offense, and its not like Black Tom is an offensive monster himself.

Pre-Game Thoughts/Preview : Giving Tom some trees to play with here. Magneto II is a beast, and Lex’s D20 subtraction could mess up the Justice League.

ROUND 1 : Injustice League initiative.
Magneto gets a long attack onto Black Canary, dealing 2 wounds. He later throws Hawkwoman to low ground. Green Arrow gets multiple attacks off of at Magneto, but no wounds.

ROUND 2 : Justice League initiative. Wonder Woman and Lex both use their powers.
Bloody round for both sides. Black Tom and Magneto work together to kill Black Canary. Hawkwoman is throwing 7 dice with Wonder Womans buff, and she manages to kill Magneto with Green Arrow’s help. Deathstroke moves up and fires at Hawkwoman, but no wounds.

ROUND 3 : Injustice League initiative. Wonder Woman and Lex both use their powers.
Deathstroke fires at Hawkwoman, dealing 1 wound. She flies towards Black Tom and turns him into paste. Deathstroke puts up a fight, but dies to the combined boosted offense of Hawkwoman and Green Arrow.

ROUND 4 : Justice League initiative. Wonder Woman and Lex both use their powers
The Justice League just have all of the momentum, and Lex dies fairly easily. Justice League wins!

Post-Game Thoughts : Yeesh, another tough one. I thought Magneto would last a bit longer, but I underestimated Hawkwoman’s offense. Black Tom didn’t do a ton, but his special attack helped to take out Black Canary.

I also think that JL army is really strong, so it was an uphill battle from the start for Team Tom.

General Thoughts on the Tested Unit : Not the hottest performances for Tom. In a vaccuum I’d say his price could come down by like, 20 points. However, I think both teams didn’t really let Tom shine (wasn’t much grouping for an AoE special attack, didn’t defend any special attacks) so thats on me. Even with an optimal setup, he doesn’t seem like he’d be too scary though. Making a Mutant a Criminal is definitely his biggest strength.

Looking at the other PTs, seems like everyone else thought he felt fine. So my games were probably outliers. Fine with him at 160.

Not sure if taking a turn with Black Tom before the chosen Hero cuts off the chosen Hero's turn.

PARTNERS IN CRIME
At the start of the game, you may choose a Unique Hero in your army that shares a class with Black Tom Cassidy. For the rest of the game, both Black Tom Cassidy and the chosen Hero have the class of Criminal in addition to what is listed on their cards. After revealing an Order Marker on the chosen Hero, before taking a turn with that Hero, you may take a turn with Black Tom Cassidy. If you do, you may not take any additional turns with other figures you control other than the chosen Hero.

I believe you should be able to remove the 4 here and it would read the same.

THERMOKINETIC BLAST SPECIAL ATTACK

Choose a figure to attack. If Black Tom Cassidy is adjacent to an Evergreen Tree or Jungle Piece, all figures adjacent to the chosen figure are also affected by this special attack. Roll 4 attack dice once for all affected figures.
