Life Aura: Used to boost movement of the Crime Fighters a few times, didn't have any defensive buffs or reductions in this game.

Roots to Branches: No powers referred to this.

Death Aura: Grundy and Frankenstein attacked and killed the Tree of Life on their side of the map to swap in the Tree of Death in round 1. This power was used to boost movement of the undead twice, once allowed the slow moving Grundy to get into engagement that he couldn't of without it.

This game was played on a custom map by Dr Jekyll that started with 2 Trees of Life on the board. The undead were a little too strong for the Crime Fighters. Round 1 saw Grundy and then Frankenstein take down the Tree of Life and turning it into a Tree of Death. The two Auras helped in moving them forward but didn't play a role giving any bonus defensively as the action was in the center of the map and neither team had big range to sit by the tree. Iron Fist was the first to go down, followed by Grundy, Daredevil and the Skrull. By Round 4 it was all over as Cage failed to roll a shield and Spider-Man missed his d20 roll, and both ended up taking big damage from Frankenstein.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Frankenstein 3 wounds/4 life left, Spike full 6 life left.

Life Aura: The Frostastic 4 podded up around a Tree of Life on the far side of the map to gain the defensive bonus. The move bonus was helpful as well. The undead were effected negatively a few times.

Roots to Branches: No powers referred to this.

Daeth Aura: In round 4 the Black Lanterns attacked and Killed the Tree of Life swapping it for a Tree of Death. Used for both defense buff and Move buff by the undead. Iceman and Invisible Woman had defensive reduction by the Tree of Death.

This game was played on the City Park map with the two Great Evergreen Trees swapped out with Trees of Life. The Trees came into play quite a bit in this game. Round 1 and 2 the Back Lanterns sat in their start zone collecting Black Lantern Power Markers from Scar. At the same time, the Frostastic Four moved across the map using the Tree of Life movement bonus to pod up around the other Tree of Life on the Black Lantern side. This gave the F4 a massive defensive boost of height, the Tree and the Invisible Woman's aura. The Blank Lanterns were able to slowly wear down the Frostastic 4, getting a big hit of 4 wounds on an over extended Mr F at the end of round 2. The Four were able to drop a Lantern but they would remove a marker and stay in the fight. In round 3 Mr F went down, as did Red for the Lanterns. Iceman and Invisible Woman went down in round 4 and ended up joining the ranks of the Lantern team. In round 5 Surfer went down to an attack by Blue to end the game.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT: The Trees were fun to test but I think they are very map dependent on how much they effect game play. In game 1 they really didn't come into play except for a couple of movement boost. In game 2 on City Park they played a very big roll. Both team benefited and were hurt by the Trees either getting a defensive bonus or reduction. Both side had to be aware of placement which created some fun situations, but not game breaking ones. I see no need for change of this design and highly recommend trying these out on the City Park map as they are in the middle of the map and come into play more.

Good start! And, yeah, any terrain piece is going to be an ingredient for map building, bit the ultimate effectiveness of the build will depend on a lot of factors.

Thanks for the playtests! I really liked the City Park map for these bad boys. It's a really good choice and they look great on the map as well.

I might put the last line of Life Aura first. Right now it's a bit confusing in its placement since it's a default on part of the power, rather than something contingent on destruction of the tree.

Then I'd probably move the last line of Death Aura to match.

Titans Go! Cyborg advances to the road. Starfire flies next to a Tree of Life and blasts down at an Evergreen, destroying it to wound Raven once. Nightwing takes to the road.
Judges creep forward, then all teleport near the Tree of Life next to Starfire, taking a risk.

Round 2: Initiative Dark Judges. They swarm Starfire. Mortis makes a dark judgment on Starfire and hits her for a wound with his Decaying Touch, then she takes as second wound from his attack and two more from Death’s special attack.
Titans Go! Raven moves forward and Soul Selfs a wound onto Mortis. Cyborg advances and rolls all skulls for a normal attack on Mortis, who has height but is next to a Tree of Life. Mortis takes three wounds. Nightwing fails to finish Mortis.
Judge Fire fails to purge Starfire, so all the Judges stay where they are. Judge Death skips Mortis and KO’s Starfire with his special attack, then Mortis uses his Decaying Touch to put two wounds on the nearby Tree of Life.

Judge Fire destroys the nearby Tree of Life, turning it into a Tree of Death.
Starfire had OM3.
Fear teleports at the end of the round.

Judges move, but no Sinners are Purged. Mortis whiffs an attack on Nightwing, who can’t flip away due to the Man Trap. Death hits Nightwing for two wounds with his special attack, getting rid of the Man Trap.
Raven can’t hit Judge Fire from height.
Judge Fire can’t purge Nightwing, but Judge Mortis hits him for a Decaying Touch wound and then he flips away but still adjacent to Judge Death. Judge Death can’t finish Nightwing..

Their ritualistic deforesting didn’t serve them, though, as their melee range prevented their camping among the twisted branches too much and the defensive boost didn’t save them from some deaths of their own. Still, fun, close match here.

• LIFE AURA: The Judges felt the brunt of this early.
• ROOTS TO BRANCHES: Not relevant here.
• DEATH AURA: Helpful to the Judges starting Round 3, but not enough to save their poor defensive rolls.

Kraven advances. The whole Fan Four advance, with Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic reaching a Tree of Life.
Sandman sandstorms over the river. Kraven sprints forward, next to a Tree of Life, then fails a Bolas attempt and an attack on Mister Fantastic. Doc Ock circles and tags Invisible Woman for a wound.
Kraven advances, engaging Mister Fantastic. Human Torch takes a swipe but Flames On Doc Ock, then gets swatted away, then fails to hit Doc Ock from height disadvantage (Ock is also next to a Tree of Life). Invisible Woman can’t hit Ock from height. Mister Fantastic engages him, gets swatted away, then fails to hit Kraven.

Unit Summary: Sinister Six just never have staying power for me. Doc Ock made the mistake of over-extending to pursue Invisible Woman and couldn’t get the job done. The Trees provided choke points and extra defense, both of which the Fan Four loved here. No Trees were taken down as the glass jawed Sinister Six wanted them up just as much. Fantastic Leader 4 rolls started getting really hot in the middle of the game and that spelled doom for the Sinister Six.

• LIFE AURA: Provided nice chokepoints with defensive boosts for the Fan Four (though the Sinister Six liked the boosts too).
• ROOTS TO BRANCHES: Not relevant here.
• DEATH AURA: Never used (no trees were destroyed).

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Human Torch with 2/5 Life, Mister Fantastic with 3/5 Life, Invisible Woman with 4/5 Life, and Thing with Full Life win.

UNIT SUMMARY: Light, fun touches. The movement parts never came up for me and honestly I feel could be dropped to streamline them. The defense mattered more and why would you run out of the life-giving aura of the tree if you didn’t have to?

UNIT SUMMARY: Light, fun touches. The movement parts never came up for me and honestly I feel could be dropped to streamline them. The defense mattered more and why would you run out of the life-giving aura of the tree if you didn’t have to?
