NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Parallax

Army Test
Map: Song of the Walrus
Units: Parallax (500), Arkillo, Sinestro Corps Soldier x2 (1030) VS Fan4 + Lightspeed (1040)

Spoiler Alert!

Round 1: Parallax puts 2 extra markers on Arkillo. Reed forms a little pod on height with him in the middle, unable to be engaged until you get through either Lightspeed, Sue, or Johnny. Arkillo slaughters his own soldier, eviscerates Thing for a wound, then kills Lightspeed. His remaining soldier attacks Reed but misses.

Round 2: The Fan4 win initiative, and Thing/Johnny/Reed all attack Arkillo, killing him! Parallax is placed nearby. All OMs were on Arkillo, so this is bad news for the Yellow Lantern team. On the remaining two turns, the Fan4 bring Parallax to 7 wounds.

Round 3: Parallax is placed on Mister Fantastic’s card. Parallax places a marker and deals a wound to Reed. Reed and Johnny attack the Sinestro Corps Soldier, blocked by a yellow shield, and Reed takes a wound. Parallax places a second marker and wounds Reed. Johnny deals the soldier 2 wounds, Thing burns the other battery, and Reed is blocked and takes a wound. Parallax places a third marker which is immediately removed. Reed kills the Sinestro soldier - which I believe ends the game as Parallax is the last figure and is not on the battlefield. Just for kicks I rolled an attack die against Reed and Reed would have survived.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Mister Fantastic (4 wounds, 2 batteries, and possessed by a Parallax with 7/8 wounds & 1 battery), Invisible Woman (0 wounds), Human Torch (1 wound), Thing (2 wounds) win.

Arkillo fell early and that was it. Parallax had a nice possession of Reed as well, but the game was basically over by then.

Round 1: Parallax puts 2 extra markers on Arkillo. Wonder Girl and Changeling move up. Arkillo kills his own soldier, eviscerates Wonder Girl for a wound, then deals 3 wounds to her with his normal attack, and the soldier wounds Changeling. Nightwing says Titans Go and the titans deal Arkillo 4 wounds.

Round 2: Nightwing says Titans Go, all attack Arkillo and are blocked. Arkillo uses eviscerate then his normal attack to kill Starfire, then the soldier kills Wonder Girl. Changeling kills Arkillo (Parallax has entered the battlefield) and forces the soldier to burn a battery shield. Parallax fails, Raven wounds Parallax, then Parallax deals 3 wounds to Changeling.

Round 3: Parallax deals 2 wounds to Changeling, Nightwing deals 2 to Parallax, Parallax kills Changeling, Raven wounds Parallax, Parallax is blocked, Nightwing wounds Parallax.

Round 4: Parallax deals 2 wounds to Nightwing then is killed by Nightwing & Raven. They easily clean up the Sinestro Corps soldier as all OMs were on Parallax.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Nightwing (2 wounds), Raven (0 wounds)

Strong work from Arkillo early on, but again he fell too early here.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Arkillo is a high damage dealer, but he falls just as quickly, even with extra stats from the extra battery markers. This build is going to be really swingy based on a lot of factors: Eviscerate rolls, Arkillo's defense rolls, his attack rolls (since he's swinging 8-10 attack dice), and the Sinestro Corps Soldier's attack rolls (another attack of 6). One extra turn of Arkillo surviving means he's probably killing 200 points of the enemy with that turn, and that's not really an exaggeration. But he died quickly in my games, and Parallax, while a solid beatstick, wasn't enough to win either.

I'd probably take him down to 450 (no lower than that) since he was proving to be solid at 400. Or do 470 if you want that specific build to be an even 1000.

Cool. Your tests and Archie's were the ones that gave me the most pause, so both of you signing off makes me feel confident. I'll be doing plenty of testing with this guy and Hal Parallax as well, so I feel OK proposing we move to Final Editing!
