Jonathan's Maps Thread - Alluvial Outpost REV 3/7/08
The maps thus far (that have been posted ):
Alluvial Outpost - The bridges are high, but the tower is higher. One side has better access to the "sand bridge" (and thus, the "sand glyph"), the other has better access to the tower and better maneuverability on "their" side. To reduce AE exploitation, I removed half of the battlements on the tower and placed the trees in such a way that only a few starting spaces are open to fire from the tower, which seems to have worked rather well both in terms of not getting sniped and being able to snipe the sniper. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...alOutpost2.pdf The Frozen Stair - some people really like this map, others don't like it at all. Someday I hope to make a larger, more expansive version than this "tournament edition", but currently it offers a very different play style than most other tournament maps out there. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...rozenStair.pdf The Ice Caves - originally conceived with 4 caves in mind, it was found that those extra caves made for too easy a dragon perch to be allowed in tourney play, so a 2-cave version was developed. Rules are heavy snow, normal ice, and allows for some pretty interesting plays. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...vesAlt%7E0.pdf http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...8/IceCaves.pdf Mole Hills - originally conceived for a Dallas tourney what seems like ages ago, I'm incredibly pleased/humbled/thankful that it was considered for the BoV. http://www.heroscapers.com/download/index.php?dlid=208 Jonathan's 2007 Hometown Map - created for the 2007 Houston League, this was a 400-point map that was supposed to work well with the Marrden Hounds that I drafted. It did, although unfortunately it also worked VERY well for the Blast-Glad combo that Focus used. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...hanMap%7E0.pdf Four Square - intended for 2v2 or 4-player melee, this also works well for 8 players in 2-person teams if the start zones are "split" a little bit. The middle "glyph zone" is protected from the bunkers, and the corner mounds make for some hard offensive/defensive decisions. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...8/4-Square.pdf Hot Bog - after seeing how cool the black Marvel terrain looked next to the lava stuff, and after seeing the brand new SotM terrain, I knew something had to be done. Enter Hot Bog, balanced but you always have to watch out for that lava field. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...cs/HotBog2.pdf Tower of Power - one of my first maps, created for a group of 6, although it works with less. Requires 2 MS. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...werofPower.pdf Twiddler's Bridge - my first map, ah the memories. For 2-4, works very well with teams. http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...lersBridge.pdf[/url] Spinner - Due to my newborn son, has not been tested, and probably needs a cooler name, but should work well with 2, 3, 4, or 6 players (with modified glyph placement, natch). http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgaller...cs/Spinner.pdf |

Cool. I would like to play on those, especially the apparently controversial Frozen Stair.

I know this is kind of an old thread but...
Jonathan, very nice maps! The best is probably Mole Hills (obviously since it's in BOV thread), but my favorite is The Ice Caves (the first one). It's very creative, and I'm probably going to use it or/as well as Mole Hills for a tournament, that will also include other cool maps from BOV thread. Anyways, thanks for sharing! -Cleon |

Thanks, Cleon - sorry I didn't see this before
I hope the Ice Caves worked out well for you - that one has a special place in my heart for some reason |

But in all seriousness I really love Mole Hills I've had to have played on it 100 times. Great maps! Spread Positivity and the joys of gaming. |

Will try to correct that issue currently... |

Spinner is cool, me and my brother made it a while ago, but the main problem is it isn't good for non-ranged hero's and squads, although my mother is said it was a really cool design.

Hmm, good call! Thanks for lett me know - hopefully I can figure a way to get some LOS-blockers into the map. I have the 2 ruins that are unused, and maybe with a few well-placed hexes we can balance it out a bit more. Thanks for the comments!

Actually, I have yet to use it in a tourney, but I did print out the step-by-step document on how to build it. I was planning on using it in the wave 8 draft (NOT the heroscape way of drafting, but my way, which is similar to the way of drafting Magic cards, if you're fimilar. I'll eventually post a thread on it if you're curious, but that will come after I post my GenCon 07 report, that I still have yet to post) that I'll eventually do (once wave 8 comes out! ). Thanks for responding! |
