NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Magik

Army Test

Units: Magik (170), Professor X, Angel, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Jubilee (1000) VS Trigon and 2x Blood Demons (1000)

Spoiler Alert!

Damage: Killed 3 Blood Demons.

Stepping Discs: Attempted 3 times, worked 2 times fully.

Soul Sword: Used on every attack.

Magical Defense: Useful as always.

Wolverine and Magik did pretty good work on the Blood Demons, it cost Magik her life, but Wolvie was able to heal through it. Jean Grey joined the battle with Jubilee and Wolvie. Trigon and the last Blood Demon dealt some damage and finished off Wolverine, but Jean and Jubilee were able to get Trigon low enough that Angel and Jean finished him off barely.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Professor X with 2 wounds, Angel and Jean with 3 wounds each.

Units: Magik (170), Cyclops II, Deadpool, Spider-Girl, Blink with Mystic Flames and Final Ruin (1000) VS Captain America, Hawkeye III, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver with Healing Energy x2 (1000)

Damage: 2 wounds to Scarlet Witch.

Stepping Discs: Attempted twice, worked 1.5 times.

Soul Sword: N/A here.

Magical Defense: Useful as always.

Cyclops sent Magik after Scarlet and Deadpool after Captain America. Scarlet cursed Deadpool and Quicksilver was able to finish off Deadpool after he failed a couple of curse rolls and couldn't heal or attack twice. From there Hawkeye and Quicksilver went after Cyclops and picked apart the Mutants from there, Magik wasn't able to kill Scarlet Witch before she fell.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Scarlet Witch with 2 wounds, Captain America with 2 wounds and Hawkeye with 3.

Damage Dealt: 2 wounds on Ghost Rider

Stepping Discs: Attempted twice worked .5 times.

Soul Sword: Helped land the two wounds on Rider.

Magical Defense: Useful as always.

Sent Ghost Rider up with Zombie first with Graviton folowing behind for his Grasp to annoy the Rag Tag team. Black Cat and Magik were the front line supported by SL and Cap. Black Cat and Cap were able to take down Zombie and pick away at Ghost Rider with Magik. But they weren't really a match for Graviton when it came down to Graviton vs Cap and Star-Lord.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Graviton with 4 wounds.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Felt good. A little weak without her autoskulls in game 2, but having a Magical Defense figure is always nice vs another figure with the power. I feel like 160-170 is a good range for her with her inconsistent move power and limited autoskulls.

Lessee... Seems fine on the demon side there... Jean probably isn't going to get a lot of mileage here. She can only throw the Demons, not Trigon. Holding Trigon in place won't do much as he has a range higher than her lock down. So her only real function is trying to prevent the Blood Demons from getting adjacent to people. I've never really been able to get a ton of mileage out of Jubilee, but picking her here is probably solid as the auto wounds you'll be up against is definitely a danger to Professor X, and she will be able to be a help if/when you lose him. Feels Paper v Rock here, but you may not have the oomph on your side to take down the big guy, thus making it probably a really great testing ground for Magik's Soul Sword power (assuming she doesn't get splatted by Demon minions first).

Not super sure about Blink as a choice here? She's not got much in terms of attack, and your foes have a strong mix of defenses and full defensive powers here. Not a whole lot of direct synergy going on for your opponent, so this looks like another paper v rock sort of match up (not dead set on that mentally though). If you try and get Spider-Girl into the action quick you may be able to do something productive with her. I am now seeing that Blink is probably more for helping people get into the action? You may have a better time with Nightcrawler II there, then he can add a bit of defensive utility.

What's your game plan with army II here? Seems a bit hodge podgey to me? It feels disruptiony, but doesn't feel like you steered enough into it for me to get a real solid read on it.

Yea was thinking that Blink could help get Spider-Girl up there in the action. I also wanted to try to fit a couple of spells in there.

The Graviton/Ghost Rider army was just two beat sticks with Zombie's bonding. Definitely a Rock army.

It's crazy how different the experiences can be for players. I don't think I've even not gotten my 60 points of value out of Jubilee. I consider her one of the better value picks in the game if you are running a mutant heavy army without Prof. X/Cyclopes II running things. She just somehow always manages to get a couple of 3/4 skull rolls for me with that SA, resulting in multiple wounds being inflicted. Perhaps it's just due to the number of times she attacks from being able to bond every turn, but no one thinks to target her first and the SA helps with quite a few defensive powers. Don't use her as much with the top mutant leaders though, as their double bonding prevents the free sidekick turn. It's the non-stop free turns she gets that makes her so effective. Like Robin can get a similar effect in a team full of vigilantes, but he cost me twice as much and only has the normal attack.

Yep I had 60 points left and she's just a solid filler at that cost for Mutant armies. Almost always gotten value out of her.

Yeah, Jubilee is one of my go-to Mutants.

Yeah she fits in the same role as Bucky or even Alfred for me, where even if she doesn’t do actual damage, the amount of attacks she soaks up justifies her points half the time.

Yeah, I think my issue is most of the time I don't tend to get to that point. The leader just has a tendency to make it to the end in those games where I pick her.
