Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
Personally, I'm not really fussed, but my preference would be affecting everyone in range and keeping the range at 3 when it triggers - for kind of the same reasons your saying you want the range broadened, actually. Magic Users then will have a way around it, but that way is within both players' control, allowing for more interesting tactics, more thought in gameplay, and encouraging Strange to close the distance in a magical duel.

Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
I'll run the poll and get this thing moving along.
Poll is open to the entire C3G community so if you play the game you can vote in this poll. The issue being discussed is the alteration of the Sorcerer Supreme power on Dr. Strange's card. There seems to be an acceptance for the general concept of changing the Magical Defense card negation from all the time to the time between one OM reveal to the next OM reveal, triggered by an X reveal on Dr. Strange's card. (Note: This means that if Dr. Strange reveals the X on the last OM3 reveal of a round, the MD card negation would remain in effect until the first OM is revealed in the next round and thus covering the OM placement and initiative roll events). The only thing left to resolve is two smaller details of how the updated power will work. Will it continue to be a blanket aura effect or should it just target and effect one MD card at a time. How far away from Dr. Strange should the MD card negation take place, continue with a range of 3 or double that range to 6. Cast your vote, you can even lobby for your position if you want to. A. Leave the Aura effect in place, continue to have that aura be 3 spaces. B. Leave the Aura effect in place, but double the size of the aura to 6 spaces. C. Change from an Aura effect to have it target just one MD card at a time, but keep the range at 3 spaces away. D. Change from an Aura effect to have it target just one MD card at a time, and double the range to 6 spaces away. I'll leave the poll open until every hero, sidekick, and CRB member has voted, or at least had ample time to do so. If that happens rather quickly I'll leave it open a bit longer to give allies and fans of the project a chance to vote as well. |

Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
I'm going to vote A, for the reasons above - on top of being closest to the original power, more importantly, it seems the most strategically interesting to me.

Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
From always-on to eats-your-X-and-only-lasts-a-turn is a pretty huge nerf already. I'd say 6 spaces sounds fine. B

Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
Sorry, late to the discussion here, but - why are we making fairly major changes to one of our previously-released units instead of making a new one? This is the same amount of work (and will require completely new playtesting), erases a unit already in existence, and isn't half as exciting as a new release. It's more work for less benefit.
Like, the original Strange is an okay unit. He's not an A+ unit, but he's playable and not hurting anyone. Why not just make a Strange 2.0 that's a bit beefier with some new tricks in general? JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!

Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
Quote:
1) He was never tested vs. a figure with Magical Defence; 2) It isn't eliminating a unit already in use, it's tweaking it; 3) It's nowhere near as much work as designing a new unit from scratch, especially since it only affects the way he plays in specific match-ups, so only those match-ups need be tested (and, as I said, they were never tested in the first place); 4) The way Strange originally utterly negated all magical powers was widely considered entirely unthematic; 5) The original power resulted in a negative and not fun play experience when taking Magical figures against him, a concern which is compounded by the fact that most of his thematic threats and villains are magical and they could in no way hope to match him in his present state. 6) You may say he isn't hurting anyone, but a number of people feel and report that he's hurting the game by being such a brutally and unthematically hard counter to other magic users and restricting design space. |

Re: C3G Requests for Reevaluation
I mean, I've been around for a while, and haven't heard anyone complaining about Dr. Strange being unfun, unthematic, or restrictive before... well, now, actually. He's been around for 6+ years now, a majority of the game's life, and the entire universe of Magical Defense figures has grown around him. He costs 300 points, and is honestly not that strong a unit. A counterdraft that makes up a third of your army?
And I mean, he'll absolutely be eliminated as a unit. Everyone we've reevaluated has had an old version erased and replaced with a new one. If we officially say "Doctor Strange no longer exists, here is new Dr. Strange," we'll be making the game worse for the people that like him as-is and see the new iteration as a step down. Like, the process here is that - if we get playtest results and/or CRB input that shows him as harmful to the health of the game, the Heroes will consider reevaluation. If we want to change that process, I'm willing to discuss it, but I haven't seen any non-anecdotal evidence that says Strange is problematic. So I feel like talking about which direction to go with his new powerset is putting the cart ahead of the horse. JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!

A for me if we're going with the 'X' reveal power.

Look, I'm probably the most careful person about reevaluation here, and I even I think this change is worth making. It doesn't change his power level in 95% of his games, it just eliminates a few problematic interactions and makes the card a little more fun to play.
