"Before the start of each match players will choose one unique (or uncommon) hero from their opponent's army to be their target"

Would this also be before you place army on the board? or after they are in the starting zone?

Yes. I said "before the start of each match" so that there is less question with abilities that say at the start of the game. Choosing targets takes place before placing armies.
I see the confusion. I'll try re-wording it.

Also I would recommend no copies of the same uncommon unit in your army. It helps make it less boring if somebody brings 3 hydras for their heroes.

Man, I don't know. In play testing someone played an army of six Mindflayers and although it got destroyed, it sure wasn't boring.

My son may have a basketball game that day. Will check out our schedule. Soccer got in the way of the Tree Town Open this year.

My greatest Heroscape mistake: Thinking that Heroscape was a $40 $400 game!
