Cheap Way to Elevate Board?

Hey all. I'm trying to come up with a cheap way to elevate the board (while keeping it *stable*) so I can make pits. Here's an example:

Code:
----\ |------
      \ |
       --_|
Something has to prop up those sides, obviously, and keep the board from shifting around too much. These pits can end up quite deep (I was looking at 9 or 10) because of the scale of the figs (both for Heroscape and Battletech). Thoughts?

Games are in my blood, and in my mind. It's just what I do.

If I understand correctly, you're looking for a way to stabilize your constructions? One really good way to do that is to use the powerful little rare earth magnets. My brother has been packaging and selling these in perfect size/quantities for use with Heroscape terrain.

Check them out here:

This is so freaking weird...I was just about to ask who made those magnets that I had seen on here awhile back.

That would definitely do the job; I guess for supports then, I could use just about anything made of metal.

He seems to only like shipping to the US, but that's okay; now that I know how well it works, I can just get 'em from my usual magnet guy. I've done all kinds of things with ND magnets before, and was actually about to put in a big order for some battletech-related activity.

yeah I did a map where I elevated the edge of the map with CD cases, and the center was lower. The point was to keep all the highest heights at the edge of the map - and the melee fighting area (the center) lower. It worked really well. I'm sure you could use the same sort of setup for what you want to do.

I'll look for a pic, and post it when I find it.

Edit: Here you go

Yeah, I'm surprised your board is stable like that though...maybe it's just me, but I find it rocks and shakes too much at that point.

Perhaps you didn't use enough CDs?

We found that two regular CD cases, and two slimline CD cases fit the exact thickness we needed, and put them all over.

There was no rocking or movement whatsoever, and all the pieces locked together as they normally would.

Maybe you're not supporting it in the right spot? try moving the supports around. I don't know what else to tell you.

To elevate my battlefields I always create them on a table rather than on the floor ...

Just because you're offended, it doesn't make you right.
