Breach Public Playtesting

The figure used for this unit is from the Lords of Madness release D&D Miniatures line. The name of the figure used is Iron Golem Juggernaut.

Rulings and Clarifications
Quote:
Q: Can Breach attack a single figure with Scimitar Sweep Special Attack?
A: Yes. In that case, there would be no second figure chosen, and no other figures would be affected.

Q: When hitting multiple figures with Scimitar Sweep Special Attack, in what order do the defenders roll dice?
A: Similar to Mimring's Fire Line Special Attack, there is a predetermined order that the defenders roll defense dice. The first to roll defense is the first figure chosen for the attack. Then roll defense dice for each figure in turn in a counterclockwise direction around Breach, ending with the second figure chosen.

Q: If Breach chooses two figures on the same ladder for Scimitar Sweep Special Attack, does the attack also affect all other adjacent figures?
A: No. The two figures are in the same "space," and thus there is nothing between them in an arc.

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

Point Total 505
Map: Volcarren Paradise
Glyphs: 4 Random Treasure Glyphs (put in center water spaces instead of special rules).

Trap: You may either reveal one unrevealed order marker from this figure’s army card and remove it or you may give the figure one wound.

Army 1: Avernus, Breach, Boreos, Talingul (505)
Army 2: Marro Gnids x5, Marutuk, Darrak Ambershard (505)

Which units survived? 1 life Marutuk and a full life Darrak

General Battle Report/Flow of game
The constructs faced off against the gnids, with breach taking out a few before they began to cling onto him and bring him down. Avernus and Boreos were able to take out the rest of the gnids, with only one getting on Avernus. Marutuk eventually killed Avernus quickly and then one shotted Boreos. Talingul ran and shot at Marutuk a bit getting her to one life before she caught up to him and killed him for the win.

How useful were playtesting units' powers and how often did they come into play?
Breach killed 8 gnids in total, 5 with his sweeping scimitar special attack, which was pretty useful, it mainly was used to hit about 2 gnids at a time.

Iron tough didn't come into play. Longstrides was used a couple of times to reposition him among the gnids.

I sorta wish he had Lava Resistant like the other Iron Golems, though I know how people can be hesitant to put 4 powers on a card, I think his powers are simple enough that Lava Resistant can be added, without too much going on in one card.

Map: Moat by Sir Heroscape
Glyphs: Ulaniva, Valda

400 points
kevindola: Acolytes x 5, Morgoloth
Heroscaper: Breach, Talingul, Boreos, Guilty
Which units survived?
Morgoloth 0 wounds, 13 acolytes

General Battle Report
So this went horrible. I moved out as a sort of pod with Boreos and Talingul, with Breach walking up. Morgoloth was summoned, and killed a Boreos who rolled crappily. Breach tried to make things right by a normal attack followed by Scmitar Sweep on Mogoloth and two acolytes, and only killed 1 Acolyte. Breach then went down. The game was called with Guilty having done nothing, and a Talingul with 2 wounds.

How useful were playtesting units' powers and how often did they come into play?

Scmitar Sweep was used once and killed one acolyte, other powers were not used.

I liked Breach, but yeah this game went real bad. I'll be sure to do some more testing with him as he seemed a fun little whirling blade.

"I am definitely a mad man with a box."

"They are too numerous to fight. What shall we do?" "Fight anyway."

"You can never defeat another if you know not how to defeat yourself."

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

Map: Asension
Glyphs: Crevcor, Mitonsoul

500 points

Army: Talingul, Boreos, Breach, Greater Ice Elementl
Army: MacDirk Warriors x3, Alastair MacDirk, Major Q10

Which units survived?
Talingul (4 life)
Breach (2 life)

General Battle Report
Q10 fired away at the constructs putting a hit on Breach and a hit on Boreos as they came in.

But the army was caught in the 2nd round and Breach and the Greater Ice Elemental killed Alastair with 2 attacks of 6. Q10 hit the non Golem elementals hard killing Boreos and 3 wounds on the Elemental before dying.

MacDirks swarmed killing the Elemental and another hit on Breach (and a few on Talingul), but the sweeping scimitar laid waste to the MacDirks easily for the Construct win.

How useful were playtesting units' powers and how often did they come into play?

Sweeping Schimitar was used 4 times
0/4 that targetted 3 macdircks
2/4 that killed 3 macdirks
3/4 that killed 3 macdircks and 1 wound Q10
1/4 that killed 2 macdirks

normal attack did 3 wounds to Alastair and 3 wounds to Q10

damage done: 3w Al, Q10, 8 Macdirks (365)

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

Map: Breach
Glyphs: Unique, Mitonsoul

400

Army: Breach, Axegrinders x3
Army: Q9, Roman Legion x3, Marcu

Which units survived?
Q9 (full)
4 Romans
Marcu (full)

General Battle Report
Breach charged and took a wound from Q9 as he did. He was surrounded by Romans before reaching the major, and it would have taken too many LEA to give to him.

Breach did 2 sweeping swords that yielded no wounds before the constant attacks of 3 killed him having done no damage.

Romans faced off against axegrinders with a few potshots from Q9 and the Romans got a comfortable victory.

How useful were playtesting units' powers and how often did they come into play?

Sweeping Schimitar was used 2 times
2/4 that targetted 2 Romans (no kills)
1/4 that targetted 3 Romans (no kills)

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

{feel free to move this discussion to another thread, as the points are not playtesting related}
  • Are the two chosen figures also affected/attacked by Scimitar Sweep? it is not clear in the power. If so I guess the only difference between this and "all adjacent figures" is if you had a friendly figure also adjacent you can go around him, but if you had two friendly figures split both ways by opponents you could go around one of them. Interesting concept. Appreciating the playtests by @kevindola & @Heroscaper Guy , & Toogwick_tuk.
  • Is there anyway to change the sculpt (or have alternate sculpt). The current model is not listed many places except MiniatureMarket where it is $18. I suggest as a replacement/alternative that is more available on many sites and only for $3-8, D&D Minis Monster Menagerie 2 #28 Iron Golem

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

Map: Lava Hot Springs

SirH: Talingul, Boreos, Avernus, Breach
KD: Minions X3, Q9

Survived: 3 Minions

Points killed: 1 minion, 2w Q9 + 3 indirect wounds locking down 2 minions and Q9 on lava and all took a wound at round end.

Direct point filled: ~127pts
Indirect points filled: ~119pts
Direct + Indirect: ~246pts

Good showing here overall for Breach. He actually lasted longer than I would have expected. I will say that I had the opportunity to use my SA to target 2 Minions and Q9 and while it was very tempting...the 4 attack wasn't reliable enough to get through the defense of 6 and 7 so I decided to just go for the single attacks on Q9 and the Minions which gave me the power attacks I needed to punch through the defense. Talingul got 1 kill, Boreos got 1 (2?) kill(s)...it was Avernus that was a dud. He only rolled 1's and 2's for burning (literally) and it never activated once. I did a startzone rush and he dealt the first wound to Q9 with a normal attack and killed 1 Minion with a normal attack but he missed on 5 different minions and q9 and was then promptly slaughtered by the minions the following turn. Had it not been for that, I think the construct team takes this one.

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

Map: Cage Match by Dignan (forgot the glyphs)

Army 1: Marcus Decimus Gallus, 4th Massachusets Line x2, Breach (395 points)
Army: Mimring, Greenscale Warriors x2, Marro Stingers x2 (390 points)

Which units survived?
3 Marro Stingers

General Battle Report
The plan was to set up a pod of Marcus and the 4th Mass on the bridge and then chase around Mimring with Breach. On the other side, Mimring and the Greenscales would harass and disrupt while the Stingers would clean up.

Mimring ended up being too mobile for this to work out, and wrecked havok on the Linemen. They ended up putting 4 wounds on Mimring, but the dragon burned them up pretty good with the Greenscales chipping in. Eventually Mimring charged in for two final fire line, one whiffed and the other got the last of the patriots, and the Greenscales set up to bog down Breach. Breach cleared his way through all of this slowly but this gave the Stingers time to set up on the high ground and over the course of a couple rounds they picked away at Breach. Breach took a couple down and had a shot when Stinger Drain when awry but didn't make it and Marcus bit it quickly after.

How useful were playtesting units' powers and how often did they come into play?
I didn't actually use any of Breach's powers, unless you count the 2 auto-shields he had against the Mimring whiff before he moved out of that line. Having a figure with 6/6 stats is pretty cool, but this map was tough for a double-spaced 5 move figure to get around on. The Stingers are also probably a pretty bad match-up for him. Bad strategy early on probably made this one a disappointment for Breach, who only did 1 wound on Mimring, 2 Greenscales, and 2 Stingers worth of damage, which isn't bad I suppose but only on the merit of big base stats.

The beatings will continue until morale improves!

Re: Breach Public Playtesting

Map: Spawn (Unique Attack +1, Move +2)

Army 1: Breach, 2x Stingers, Ninjas of the Northern Wind, Marcu
Army 2: Fen Hydra, 3x Microcorp Troopers, Tarn Vikings

Survived
Fen Hydra (3 lives), 1 Tarn Viking

General Battle Report
The game started with Troopers and Stingers advancing and taking shots at each other. They whittled each other down until the stingers were defeated by the start of the 3rd round. The Ninjas then advanced and sliced through the remaining Troopers fairly easily. Tarn Vikings took out a Ninja and claimed the movement glyph, while the other two ninjas advanced to try and put some quick wounds on Fen Hydra who refused to take any wounds after a couple attacks. The Fen Hydra advanced, and eventually took out the two ninjas. Breach took out 2 Tarn vikings on the way to try and engage the Fen Hydra. The Hydra got the first hit on Breach and put 2 wounds on him with 4 attacks. Breach swung back with a big hit, but the Fen Hydra's defense was almost impenetrable. After trading blows for a few turns, the hydra finally got the last wound on Breach after only taking one wound from 3 separate attacks of 7 (Breach was on height). The Hydra cleaned up Marcu for the win.

Discussion
- Breach did 55 points worth of damage (He would've done more, but it's kinda difficult to punch through a consistent 4 and 5 shield defense from the Fen Hydra).
- No other specials were used, which was unfortunate. I did have an opportunity to use Long Strides, but decided against it because it put Breach in too vulnerable a position - it was nice that it was an option though.
- It seems like he'd be a great addition to an army with Talingul - the opportunity for multiple attacks is what will make him shine - but that didn't really happen in this game.

EDIT:
I actually played three games with Breach. The first 2 were so dismal that I decided to do a third. After these three games, I've come to the conclusion that Breach doesn't like me.

Game 1: 2 Attacks of 3 skulls each took Breach down when he blanked on both defense rolls. He killed one Skeleton of Annellentia that saved itself with the necromancy roll before dying.

Game 2: Breach blanked against an attack from 1 Tarn viking (who crossed the entire map in one turn thanks to numerous beserker charges being successfully rolled) on height who rolled 5 out of 5 skulls (buffed by Unique Attack +1) and died. He didn't do any damage this game.
