Robocop 2014. One word, boring. It drug, there was too much political BS, and even the action scenes were boring.

I actually thought Robocop was OK. My expectations were very low though.

You absolutely need to read the book. The movie was a fair adaptation, but some of the scenes probably came across very differently for you than for me. I was disappointed that the only appearance of Elvis was a lifesize cutout. I enjoyed it, but so much of the context (and some characters, like his parents) was missing. Odd's narrative voice is enjoyable too. I get a lot of the omissions, but it could have been better

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?

Finally watched Guardians of the Galaxy last night. Fun movie but Winter Soldier is still probably my best Marvel movie.

Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those.

I enjoyed Odd Thomas as well when I watched it a couple of months back.

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies

In my own frame of reference, the last three movies were far inferior to the first trilogy. That being said, this one was better than its precedcessors, and almost as good as LOTR. It had grandeur, and no outstanding gaffes that I can think of offhand (or would want to spoil if I could). It did go a bit off script as usual, but that doesn't really bother me if its done well. There is one major unexpected event early on that I believe did occur 'offstage' in the famous LOTR Appendices, read so long ago, which I quite enjoyed in the film.

All in all, a good ending. The Silmarillion would make a great TV mini series over several seasons, but I'd rather see someone else do it at this point. As an anthology, it would even survive treatment by a separate creative team for each different era.

If anyone wants to work on The First Age; with me, I'm available...

FYI, tonight is the final Colbert Report. That major Tolkien fan will replace David Letterman in May. See his 12/11 show On Demand for a fun interview with a secret B5A guest you won't see anywhere else! (Hey, I didn't even spoil that).

Re: Movies: What did You Watch Last Night?

I agree chas, that this Hobbit was the best, by far. Smaug was everything I had hoped he would be and his short film time was better than anything in the first two films.
Besides that it was lots of combat, which I enjoyed. Did you think Mogrimm when a certain dwarf arrived?

I liked it better than Fellowship and would put it as my third favorite of the six.
