Remember, they can not retaliate against you if you make a valid complaint and if you go through the EEOC, they will want the documentation and want to know what you've done to fix the situation. If the company does retaliate against you and you are working with the EEOC, they can find causal link and take even further action.
You should need to work at a company that causes you stress. Take with HR anyway and find out if there is a policy about religion in the work place or inappropriate conversations (religion can be one of them).
Most importantly, document everything regarding this. Time, date, what he said, what you said. It will only help!
Regarding the email idea, I don't think it is a bad idea as it is written documentation that has been time stamped.
the EEOC should be a last resort, but go through the chain to get it resolved, if more problems come of it, then the EEOC can help get things straightened out.

Americans
Go with Nether's idea, it's way more better and fun!

I guess it sucks to be American.... I should no longer help him or anyone else out. America has these laws so the citizens don't have to deal with crap like Roland is going through.
The EEOC is not to bring legal action against the company, but you can do that if you are being treated unfairly, it is to keep him at his job with out being harassed or retaliated against.
Oh wait, Americans I shouldn't help, I'm keeping my mouth shut!

My point is only that instead of trying to resolve the issue man to man there is an overwhelming urge to take legal action for everything these days. Modern society in general is Sue-Happy, it's just that America is sort of the paragon of this image so you get picked on more.

Yeah you're right other countries don't have those laws...I know that us pinko socialist Canadianssss.......what a tick........we have those laws too!!! Oh yeah its just that we don't go all sue-happy over every little thing that ruffles our feathers.

First off, I said absolutely nothing about Canada having or not having these laws, before you jump to conclusions, put words in my mouth, comprehend what it is that you are reading.
I never said a thing about taking them to court or being, in your words "Sue-Happy." I'm not going to explain it to you, reading comprehension would work wonders for you and less explanation on my part will be more practice on your part.
