Damn! I knew I should've checked that first. He could still take out Grimnak though. Yeah, that's the story, that's why I had him in that lineup. Bonding, schmonding.

I would still want go with an all-ranged army in this format, or at least very close to it. When you engage enemies, you generally force them to attack you even if that's not their first choice. When you stand off, you offer the enemy the choice to attack a different threat.
I too think Knights of Weston would be a big threat if the maps are small. If I took melee figures, I would want someone cheap who isn't afraid to mix it up with the knights: WoA, Izumi Samurai, and Isamu come to mind. Nakitas could be fun to play, since if their smoke powder goes off, an attack against you might get redirected to another opponent. Of course, they might run up against Q10, too. That would hurt real bad in a 300-point game. I think I'd be interested in taking Kaemon Awa for my hero because he combines range with the prickly "stay back!" power of counterstrike. Actually, so do TSA... 120 Kaemon Awa 130 Tagawa Samurai Archers x2 050 Marro Warriors 300 I guess you could take Izumi Samurai instead of MWs and get your 310, but... nah. I'd rather get 310 points of Vydar anyway: 110 Laglor 200 Microcorps x2 310 Also, is Marvel allowed? Can you play Venom? If every opposing army is required to have a hero, he could be an excellent choice. Venom + Q10 is a scary 300-pointer to face. |

I thought of that, too! I'm pretty sure Marvel (that is, Venom) is not allowed for this event.

I think Mimring is too fragile for this event. The maps are very compact, and I think Mimring would end up with a big ol' bullseye on his butt. He succeeds most when he's able to hang out on the edges and in these events he'll get surrounded very quickly.
In the practice games we've played, a figures points end up contributing a lot to how much they get attacked. |

Any high cost low defense figure is a BIG target in these games.
I did take Mimring once with (for fun): 150 Mimring 120 Krug 40 Arrow Gruts Mimring hopped the ruins and firelined 4 Minions, killing 3! By the end of the match Mimring had killed 147 points. I barely won that one, and probably would have lost if Mimring hadn't started off so well. I like the idea using squads with counter strike--especially since you get the points of anything you kill with counterstrike. Hmm..samurai. I think I'll try that archer army and see how it does--might be able to fend off my BroInLaw's heavy gruts for a round or two... |

dok - I'm pretty sure Retchets and AE still count towards your starting zone spaces.
Anyway, you've pretty much nailed it with having effective, yet cheap and unobtrusive units. If you get too aggressive, or over extend, you're just going to draw attention to yourself. |
